The Big Irish Fair Music Fest (June 14-15)

Pat Macpherson, Seven, Wisdom Quarterly; IrishFair.org
Irishman Che Guevara Lynch
The seashore town of Long Beach in Los Angeles' famous harbor is the location for this year's Southern California cultural celebration known as Irish Fair, like the earlier one held at the Pomona Fairplex. There may be more people with Irish ancestors in greater L.A. than in Belfast or Dublin because there are 100,000,000 in the worldwide diaspora.
The many activities help us remember we did not grow up with, like listening to traditional music, Irish food and drink, and many other engaging aspects of Irish culture. Can Irish Americans play the Irish bodhran, commune with the Fay (faeries), dance like the island youth, or shop for Irish crafts? They can now.

Is domestic violence kind of SEXY? (cartoon)

Ashley Wells, Seth Auberon, Irma Quintero, Wisdom Quarterly; Mia De Graaf (Daily Mail)

Vogue is being blasted.

Is the fashion magazine "trivializing domestic abuse" in violence-themed edition that teams beaten-up and bloodied models with haute couture (high fashion)?

Female editor Franca Sozzani is unapologetic. She claims it is a political statement against domestic abuse. But outraged Twitter users blast the images as "unacceptable" and "repulsive."

Outrage: This image of a woman bleeding and strewn across the floor in Vogue Italia has enraged readers
Woman bleeding and strewn across floor
[First it was "heroin chic," now this. What next? Demeaning and expensive clothes and shoes? Tasteless jokes? "What do you tell a woman with two black eyes? Nothing, you already..." Hey, you can't publish that punchline! All right, just saying. I mean, what next?]

Vogue Italia has sparked international outrage after publishing slick photos of a "beaten-up" model. The image, in this month's edition, was an attempt at making a statement calling attention to all-too-common violence, the publication is claiming.

I'd rather be on the cover of Vogue
But critics have blasted the fashion shoot for "glamorizing" violence against women. The photograph shows a redheaded model in a Prada dress sprawled upside down at the bottom of a flight of stairs, blood streaming into her hair, as a blood-splattered man looks on from an armchair.

Other images in the violence-themed edition show a girl in a Prada dress screaming as a man approaches her with blood on his hands.

A balaclava makes one Pussy Riot
Another girl hides in a cupboard, with a man leaning over brandishing shears. And in one, the model looks petrified crouching under the stairs as a man descends.

Outraged Twitter users [twits?] attacked the fashion shoot as being in "poor taste." More

500 Nations: The Story of Indian Americans (Part 1)

Recent estimates indicate that the population may have been in excess of 100 million people spanning from Alaska and Greenland to the southern tip of South America. In Pre-Colombian North America (north of Mesoamerica), and in Pre-Canada, most people lived along the coast and along major rivers.

(TNH) "America Before Columbus" Part 1

Native America before European colonization: By the time the corrupt conqueror Columbus came to enslave people in the Caribbean Islands in 1492, unknown to him and majority of the Eastern Hemisphere, he landed on islands located in the middle of two huge continents now known has North and South America. Both were teaming with huge civilizations that rivaled any in the world at the time and thousands of smaller First Nations, clans, and tribes.

    Support women's rights, support FEMEN

Amber Larson, Seven, CC Liu, Wisdom Quarterly; FEMEN.org (femenshop.com/Facebook)
FEMEN's topless demonstration over Ukraine, Crimea, and Russia makes cover of NY Times.

Topless protests call attention to vital causes.
One of the things that differentiates FEMEN from other groups is its financial independence. FEMEN does not need to negotiate with shareholders, sponsors, or politicians. Donations and purchases from supporters the world over are the only income source that makes protests, investments, new branches, Sextremist training programs, and the Website possible. So if readers share FEMEN's ideals, if they would like to see more actions, and if they believe in women's rights, support FEMEN right now by requesting an autographed FEMEN book, hoodie, or t-shirt: femenshop or femen.

ACTION: "Stop Putin's War" - During a protest against Putin's intervention in Crimea, French FEMEN sextremists were beaten by pro-Russian reactionaries, undercover agents (seen trying to suppress photography), and arrested by unknown agents. During the action they shout "F**K YOU, PUTIN!" and demand he step back from independent Ukraine during a Parliament gathering of bandits and marionettes deciding the fate of Crimea in Putin's renewed Union.

The confrontation between Russia and Ukraine continued Monday. Ukrainian officials and some journalists say Russia demanded that two Ukrainian naval ships surrender by 5:00 am local time or face an attack. Russian officials denied making any such demands.

Who is provoking unrest in Ukraine? Role of USA (CIA) and Russia

Russia is vowing to keep its troops in the Ukrainian region of Crimea in what has become Moscow’s biggest confrontation with the West since the Cold War. Ukraine’s new prime minister, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, said Pres. Putin had effectively declared war on his country. Concern is growing that more of eastern Ukraine could soon fall to the Russians. Earlier today, Russian troops seized a Ukraine coast guard base in the Crimean city of Balaklava.

On Sunday, the new head of Ukraine’s navy defected to Russia. To talk more about the crisis in Ukraine, Democracy Now! spoke to Yale history professor Timothy Snyder. His latest article for The New York Review of Books is "Ukraine: The Haze of Propaganda." DN also spoke to retired CIA analyst Ray McGovern. He focused on Russian foreign policy for the first decade of his 27-year career with the agency and recently wrote an article titled "Ukraine: One 'Regime Change' Too Many?" More

    Russians invading Crimea, Ukraine

    Anti-Putin protests, EU consulate (FEMEN)
BAKHCHISARAI, Ukraine - The tense military standoff in Crimea continued today as Ukraine’s army and naval forces were blockaded by invading Russian troops and supporters, at some sites demanding that the Ukrainian units surrender their bases and swear allegiance to the Kremlin and Russia’s armed forces.

The demand represented an alarming sign that the fresh Russian forces had come here to stay, some analysts said.

Stop Putin. Ukraine must be free! (FEMEN)
“The fact that Russians openly demand that Ukrainian officers and soldiers in the Crimea take a military oath to Russia may mean one thing: The Kremlin intends to keep them here for a long time, if not for good,” said Kost Bondarenko, head of the Ukrainian Policy Institute, a think-tank based in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev.

“It means that Ukraine is steadily losing the Crimea to Russia, and it will be extremely difficult to get it back as the Ukrainian army is incapable of opposing Russia," he said. More

World to end yesterday: Viking mythology

Pat Macpherson, Pfc. Sandoval, Wisdom Quarterly, George Knapp (Coast to Coast, 2-22-14)
From the point of view of quantum physics, there is plenty of room for interpretation within the realm of what is known (themindunleashed.org).

    We collectively co-create physical reality
In quantum physics -- the scientific study of the nature of physical reality -- there is plenty of room for interpretation.

The most popular and mainstream, the Copenhagen interpretation, has as one of its central tenets the concept of wave function collapse:

    (Facebook/TheMindUnleashed)
That is, every event exists as a “wave function” that contains every possible outcome of that event, which “collapses” -- distilling into the actual outcome once it is observed.

For example, if a room is unobserved, anything and everything that could possibly be in that room exists in “quantum superposition” -- an indeterminate state, full of every possibility, until someone enters the room and observes it, thereby collapsing the wave function and solidifying the reality. Knapp's News 2/22/14Investigative journalist and radio host George Knapp shares several news items that have recently caught his attention, including articles on the Viking apocalypse, DHS's quest for a national license-plate recognition database, tsunami "ghost" stories from Japan, and the possibility of alien life inside of atoms:
Ready for the Viking apocalypse? Norse myth predicts world will end Saturday, Feb. 22

People in York, Jorvik Viking Festival
We have survived the Mayan apocalypse and Y2K, but be afraid -- the end of the world is coming...again!

This time it’s the Viking apocalypse that is allegedly set to destroy Earth, with Norse mythology claiming the planet will split open and unleash the inhabitants of Hel on Feb. 22.

Doom: The final battle of the gods [Buddhist devas], otherwise known as Ragnarok, signals the end of the world. Vikings believe the apocalypse will begin on Saturday.

Apocalypse NOW comes as the Viking community prepares for the Norse apocalypse called Ragnarok this Saturday [yesterday], in which the Earth is predicted to split open, and gods [devas] will battle for supremacy.

According to Vikings Ragnarok is a series of events including the final predicted battle that results in the death of a number of major gods, the occurrence of various natural disasters and the subsequent submersion of the world in water.

The wolf Fenrir is also predicted to break out of his prison, the snake Jormungand will rise out of the sea, and the dragon of the underworld will resurface on Earth to face the dead heroes of Valhalla -- who, of course, have descended from heaven to fight them. More

    APOCALYPSES THAT NEVER HAPPENED
    THE MAYAN APOCALYPSE
The world was set to be destroyed by an asteroid, or some other interplanetary object such as an alien invasion on December 21, 2012. Scientists said this wasn't possible... and were proved right.
    THE CHRISTIAN RAPTURE
When his four original predicted dates failed to come to fruition, Christian radio broadcaster Harold Camping revised his prediction and said that a "Spiritual Judgment" took place in May 2011, and that the end of the world would occur on October 21.
    THE [HOAGLAND] COMET
There were grave fears Comet Elenin would cause disturbances to the Earth's crust, causing massive earthquakes and tidal waves in August 2011. Others predicted that Elenin would collide with Earth on October 16.
    THE BLACK HOLES
A number of groups claimed that activation of the Large Hadron Collider experiment would bring about the end of the world through the production of planet-eating micro black holes on September 10, 2008. Similar claims were made two years later [just as the first nuclear test in the U.S. was thought to stand a good chance of destroying the world by sparking an uncontrolled series of nuclear fusion/fission events].
    THE NUCLEAR WAR
In 2003, Japanese cult Aum Shinrikyo predicted the world would be destroyed by a nuclear war sometime between October 30 and November 29.
    THE NATURAL DISASTERS
Yoruba priests in Nigeria predicted dramatic tragedy and crisis in 2002, including coups, war, disease, and flooding.
    THE MILLENNIUM BUG
Diet is the secret to beauty.
Predictions a "Y2K" computer bug would crash computers and cause major catastrophes worldwide when the clock ticked over to midnight on January 1, 2000. Planes were tipped to fall out of the sky and electronic gadgets were predicted to malfunction, ultimately resulting in society ceasing to exist.

Everyone loves a good ghost story

Pat Macpherson, Dhr. Seven, CC Liu, Wisdom Quarterly; Roger Clarke (Telegraph.co.uk)
I don't see anything because I'm not looking to the left. OH NO! Shapeshifter!
Ghosts/phantoms permeate European culture through and through (telegraph.co.uk)

"Hungry ghosts" (pretas) depicted in Asia
It’s the time of year [the dead of winter] -- a little before that other time of year -- when many people’s minds turn to spooks and ghost stories. Once, the parish bells rang out on Hallowe’en to scare away such prowling phantoms and demons speeding forth from what M.R. James, the Victorian ghost-story writer, would call “sequestered places.”

But now, a commercialized Hallowe’en presents itself, imported from the United States, which in turn took its antecedents from an Irish Catholic celebration of seasonal misrule.

Ghosts are real. Just ask Dr. Gabor Mate.
Up to the 19th century, it was often said in rural England that none but a “Popish priest” could lay -- or exorcise -- a ghost, and much of traditional English belief in ghosts comes from the unquiet spirit of hidden Catholic traditions.

In earlier centuries, for example, to say you believed in ghosts was to identify yourself as a Catholic, or at the very least a religious dissident, since early Methodists believed in the same thing also.

The infamous Cock Lane ghost that so convulsed London in 1762 was very much gingered up by a parish priest with Methodist inclinations; all of society, including Horace Walpole (who wrote the first Gothic novel, The Castle of Otranto), flocked to a house in Smithfields to hear the ghost that scratched out pronouncements on the living and dead.

    Ghosts can cook (M.A. Winkowski)
The founder of the Methodist faith, John Wesley, came from a haunted family. The account of the Epworth Poltergeist in 1716 is one of the classic ghost stories in the canon, and it took place in the Lincolnshire rectory while 14-year-old Wesley was away from home. In letters to John’s brother Sam, his mother detailed how the arrival of two new servants at Martinmas (the feast of St. Martin on Nov. 11) was the beginning of... a whole panoply of terrifying sounds, groans and crashes that not even a sceptical father could explain. John Wesley’s father, a bad-tempered man who was constantly at war with his own parishioners, finally decided that these sounds came from Old Nick himself. More

    Real "ghosts" (shadows, poltergeists)
     (COMMENTARY)
Seance faked hand image (Museum archive 1920)
Ghosts (Sanskrit pretas, Pali petas) are real, though mostly harmless. They are unfortunate "spirits" (with subtle physical forms and often the power to appear in various shapes and guises). All of them lived before -- like all beings everywhere, just revolving and revolving in endless cycles of samsara.

It is rebirth that can be brought to an end and, with it, all suffering (dukkha, disappointment) once and for all. But people are not interested in that. We're interested in trying to get ahead on this plane of existence. Just below us are the animals suffering terribly. No one cares. The ghosts have it even worse, though not nearly as bad as the ogres (yakkhas), cruel titans (asuras, "demons") and hellions (narakas).

    Shapeshifting "Old Hag" ghosts
Just the other night I was accosted by "ghosts" due to the "Old Hag Syndrome." The female ghosts (not old, not hags) held my hands down against my will while I was conscious, upset, awake, and struggling. Because there was sleep paralysis, people will say d'uh it was "sleep" and therefore a dream. While dreamlike, it is not semiconscious, closed eye sleep. We can trigger paralysis through deep relaxation without actually being in a sleep state. The struggle to come out of paralysis lasted for what felt like ten minutes.

    (paranormal.about)
Of course, it couldn't have helped that Mesmerist/hypnotist Rick Collingwood (mindmotivations.com) was on Coast to Coast talking about Hypnosis and Evil Spirits. He was not a believer until he hypnotically exorcised a "speed spirit" (a possession resulting from the use of speed such as meth or cocaine), which so weakens a person as to make him/her susceptible to entities seeking to attach or to behave parasitically as energy vampires).

The fireplace will keep them away
As usual, these usually-unseen beings seemed more mischievous than malevolent. But they are very happy to scare a person, as if to feed on the distress. If there are shining beings on the Abhasvara Plane who feed on joy, why not miserable eaters who zap energy away? So I cultivate compassion and annoyance rather than fear or actual malice ready to banish them with positive and protective energy.
