Amys_column_defaultThe Israeli assault on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip has entered its fourth week. Henry Siegman, a venerable dean of American Jewish thought and president of the U.S./Middle East Project, sat down for an interview with Democracy Now! An ordained rabbi, Siegman is the former executive director of the American Jewish Congress and former executive head of the Synagogue Council of America, two of the [three] major, mainstream Jewish organizations in the U.S. [The other being the ADL.] He says the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories must end [now]. Death toll tops 1300. "Enough blood has been spilled": Israel CONDEMNED for striking U.N. shelter with precision bomb (then trying to blame war crime on Hamas' homemade rockets)

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has publicly condemned Israel for what he called its "outrageous" and "unjustifiable" shelling of a U.N. shelter in Gaza that killed 20 Palestinian civilians on Wednesday.

Many of the dead were children who were sleeping. The U.N. itself has not directly condemned Israel [how could it with the U.S. promoting and protecting Israel's war crimes?] But it admits that all available evidence points to Israel's responsibility for the terrorist act and crime against humanity.

It was the sixth time Israel had hit [targeted] a U.N. shelter since the Israeli offensive in Gaza began 24 days ago. The United Nations said it had given the coordinates of the shelter to the Israeli military 17 times prior to the attack. [They knew exactly where to aim or to definitively avoid aiming.]

According to the United Nations, more than 240,000 Palestinians are now staying in U.N. shelters in Gaza. Another 200,000 Palestinians have been displaced and are staying with other overcrowded families without sufficient food or water.

Democracy Now! is joined by Christopher Gunness, spokesperson for the the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees. "UNRWA has reached a breaking point," Gunness says. "Eight of our staff have been killed. Our facilities are overwhelmed. Because of the continued displacement...we may soon find ourselves where there are tens of thousands of people in the streets of Gaza -- no food, no water, no shelter, no safety [suffering illegal collective punishment at the hands of Israel's military], frankly, after we’ve found that Israeli artillery is capable of hitting our shelters. And we’re saying: enough is enough."

Israel's atrocities continue and worsen (video)

One of the greatest challenges in understanding the real situation in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories is getting reliable information. This latest assault on Gaza reaffirms the key role played by the U.S. media in maintaining the information blockade. [Our U.S. F-14 fighter planes are used by Israel in its/our bombing of Palestinian civilians manned by Israeli pilots trained by the U.S. military-industrial complex]. It also highlights the increasing importance of pressure applied by social networks.

25 x 6 mile prison, 1.8 million prisoners
With a reporter in Gaza right now (Sharif Abdel Kouddous, who took this picture of a Palestinian baby harmed by Israel now in the hospital)... Despite [another phony] U.N. Security Council call for a ceasefire, Israel has intensified its attack on Gaza and warned the world of a "protracted campaign," more war crimes against civilians justified by saying it is only trying to kill Hamas members.

Palestinian officials say they have killed more than 110 people in the past 24 hours, with some saying Monday was the most intensive night of bombing the civilian city of Gaza so far. During this time, Israel attacked more than 150 sites including Gaza’s only power station and a media center that houses the broadcasting headquarters of Hamas and a number of other Arab satellite news channels. News of what is really going on under Israeli military oppression will not be allowed to get out unless Israel controls the broadcast, the access, the PR, the message, and the spin.

Earlier on Monday, ten people were killed, eight of which were children, and 40 others wounded by a bomb in a park near the beach in the Shati refugee camp in Gaza City. The child victims were said to be playing on a playground swing when they were hit by Israel.

Israel, to add confusion to the chaos, denies carrying out the attack -- even though eyewitnesses said the explosion was caused by an Israeli airstrike.

Another Israeli bombing reportedly hit an outpatient building of Gaza’s main hospital, al-Shifa. Meanwhile, ten Israeli soldiers were said to have been killed on Monday. Fifty-three Israeli soldiers, two Israeli civilians, and a Thai Buddhist migrant farmworker have died since Israel's assault began.

Democracy Now! goes to Gaza City to speak with correspondent Sharif Abdel Kouddous. "[Israel has] shelled hospitals, U.N. schools; they’ve bombed people in their homes," Kouddous reports. "There’s literally nowhere for these people to run to." [All borders are blocked to Palestinians by Israel, who wants 1.8 million civilians hemmed in and killed by airstrikes, gunboats, ground invaders, and spies.] "Nowhere to Go": Gaza suffers one of deadliest...

Palestinian journalist Mohammed Omer: Lifting Israel's blockade isn’t a Hamas demand — it’s a human right:

Today is Eid, the feast and culmination of Ramadan, the holiest month on the Islamic calendar. But there is no opportunity to observe or celebrate it. The number of Palestinians murdered by Israel has topped 1,100 after one of the deadliest 24-hour periods since Israel began an assault on a section of Palestine/Israel called "Gaza" 22 days ago.

Most of the murdered have been civilians. More than 1 out of 10 (180,000) Palestinians have been displaced over the past three weeks. This is roughly 10 percent of the population of the Gaza Strip, an open air prison that is one of the most crowded, densely populated pieces of land in the world.

Democracy Now! is joined from Gaza City by award-winning Palestinian journalist Mohammed Omer. "I believe Israel wants to make people turn against the resistance," Omer reports. "There is no way for people to turn against the resistance -- in fact it is the other way around. People in the street say we do support resistance because that is the only way to end the occupation

"...I’m afraid we are going to have more radical generations in the Gaza Strip, and I fear for the future of Gaza and the future of the West Bank [the two remaining parts of Israel where all indigenous Palestinians have been corralled into areas like concentration camps, refugee camps, and metropolitan prisons where Israel controls everything that goes in and comes out in addition to raining down death on civilians any time it wishes] -- and I fear the future of the region if the international community is not acting now to end the blockade and the operation in Gaza." Palestinian journalist Mohammed Omer: lifting Israel's blockade...

Stop US-Israel's war crimes (video)

We supply the arms, the weapons, the money, and the overwhelming strategic geopolitical interest that fuels Israeli war crimes. Then we, the USA (via our CIA and NSA), provide the public relations cover and the UN Security Council votes to make sure that no international force opposes our co-crimes against humanity with war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu. American Jews go to fight in Israel's military, as well as funneling hundreds of millions into Israel's anti-Palestinian efforts, what one brave Western Jewish professor calls Israel's "incremental genocide" of Palestinians, the indigenous people under Israeli colonial rule and occupation.

Meanwhile, the mainstream media is gagged, the Obama administration (along with Secretary of State Skull 'n Bones member and accidental Israel-criticizer/truth-teller John Kerry) is eager to defend Israel's military and internationally illegal tactics, and most of us as Americans sit on our hands being lied to and thinking he said/she said. Well, Israel did suffer the loss of three kidnapped teens living in illegal settlements encroaching farther into the ghettos and reservations of Israel's displaced prisoners in the world's largest open air prison called the Gaza Strip. So it only makes sense to bomb defenseless civilians from the air, from naval ships cruising safely up and down the Mediterranean (which forms the entire western border of Gaza), from infiltrators, from ground invaders, from racist Jewish assassins of the infamous Mossad... And then there are the free-roaming right wing Jewish racists beating up Israeli dissidents on the left who oppose Prime Minister Netanyahu, the Knesset, and Israel's illegal/US-funded war machine.

Why does this matter to us? We're not really the "U.S.," or the military, or the American government, or the military-industrial complex, or the Pentagon, or the U.N. It matters to us, to all of us as citizens and residents because Israel trains our police chiefs and prison-industrial complex heads. Our racism as American citizens, directed at our indigenous populations -- and our urbanized/ghettoized populations -- directly stems from training and technology received from our "special" relationship with that occupied land calling itself the "State of Israel." Don't believe it? Gov. Perry just decided to send Texas troops over to the southern U.S. border to "aid" with the annihilation of our own post-colonial "troublemakers," which is anyone trying to come in and bother our murderous border police.

Call it Zionism, clothe it in fundamentalist Christian terms, adopt a twisted biblical paradigm, and... kill, kill, kill. Yes, "Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition"! And call anyone who opposes Israel an antisemite or a self-hating Jew. Max Steinberg, a killer from California, fell in love with illegal-Israel on a free trip (offered to all Jews by Israel) and died as a sharpshooter killing Arabs and Palestinians for the idea. What a pity; he should have gone to the other Israel, the Russian oblast no one talks about.

Israel bombs Gaza’s only rehab hospital: staff forced to evacuate patients after shelling

(IA) The War Around Us recently nabbed the best feature documentary award at the Newport Beach Film Festival. It profiles Israel's 2008-2009 invasion of Gaza through the eyes of two young English correspondents working for Al-Jazeera (the only major media outlet willing to work in Gaza and show the other side of Israel's war crimes that the very calculated Israeli war machine and public relations campaign does not want shown to the world), Ayman Mohyeldin and Sherine Tadros.
  • What is Gaza? It is at once the largest open-air prison, making Israel the largest jailer in the world, even beyond the USA and China, and the most densely populated urban city in the world (almost two million detainees).
  • According to "The Lab" the real reason for these atrocities, crimes against humanities, and Israel's incremental genocide  is to test American-made and provided weaponry. Israel only acts with American aid, permission, and direction. the purpose is ethnic cleaning with whatever pretext comes to hand, such as the "kidnapping of three Israeli settler youth" from yet another illegal Israeli settlement.
Through their eyes, viewers get a glimpse into the Israeli incursion on the 25-by-7-mile Gaza strip. Israel's Jewish military (with compulsory military service demanded of all Jews of a certain age, including women but exempting ultra-Orthodox Jews, to gain Israeli citizenship) killed nearly 1,400 Palestinians [89 children by Israel's own "official" count, which is to say those it could not deny or obscure] and 13 Israelis (four from friendly fire). Let's face the awful truth about why Israel gets away with war crimes: "The CIA owns everyone of any significance in the major media" - former CIA Director William Colby (DP).

That boy has a stone in his hand, annihilate him! Israel (an arm of the CIA) seeks revenge! Israel's invasion, occupation, and annihilation of Palestine was a Catastrophe or Nakba (EOI).
alestine burning as a result of Israeli government bombing supported by the majority of its Jewish, nationalist population calling for "revenge" against Arabs (electronicintifada.net).

.
Are we, as Americans -- Jewish, Buddhist, Christian, Muslim, animistic, atheistic, and hedonistic -- guilty of Israel's crimes against humanity? We as a country fund, support, direct, then defend Israel. And whatever our president does or does not do, there are real movers and shakers -- what we call the "military-industrial complex" working in lock step with the CIA, NSA, and corporations -- who actually call the shots, stage events, and manage the spin and public relations on the mainstream media.

Family Members of Slain and Beaten Palestinian Boys Speak Out about Israeli Brutality
I can make you president, Mitt. - Thanks, Bibi!
Two children -- one American, the other Palestinian, boys from the same family --are at the center of revenge killings and torture by Israeli Jewish terrorists.

Israel claims to be retaliating against captive Palestinians in the world's largest open-air prison (Gaza) for the kidnapping and murders of three Israeli teens. Sixteen year old Mo Abu Khadeir was found dead in East Jerusalem after being kidnapped by Jews who burned him alive, the cruelest form of murder.
  • (UPDATE: Six Israeli Jews have been arrested, and three have allegedly already confessed to these crimes against humanity who were answering open calls for "revenge" by their Prime Minister Netanyahu, the apparent head of the Israeli military and its chief CIA contact).
Autopsy reports have confirmed that the teenager was burned alive. Days of protests in Palestinian towns and cities culminated in the arrest of six suspects by the Israeli government.
Oh, Great Wall God, please help Bibi kill my enemies *sniffle-sniffle* (BBC/S401)
 .
Is/was "Israel is worth ten CIAs"?
Meanwhile, a 15-year-old boy from the same family, the American teen Tarek Abu Khadeir, was savagely beaten by undercover Israeli police while watching the protests.

It is fortunate that two separate cameras were filming Tarek as he was beaten unconscious. They did not manage to film him as he was denied medical treatment, jailed without charge, then fined to win his release as family members paid steeply for his freedom.
  • (UPDATE: Tarek was subsequently brought up on trumped up charges in an apparent attempt to protect Israel's paramilitary police, who beat him without justification in an extreme abuse of power. The U.S. government put out a meek statement calling for an investigation into the use of "unnecessary force" by militant Israeli agents).
Sexist, patriarchal Israel says it a democracy
Tarek, 15, is a U.S. citizen of Palestinian descent. He was on vacation visiting relatives when beaten nearly to death then arrested and imprisoned without trial to cover up police crimes. After days of lobbying by advocacy groups and his family here in the U.S., he was sentenced by Israel to 10 days of house arrest in Palestine. His beating was captured on video by two neighbors and can be viewed online (and below).

Obama proves US is pro-AIPAC, pro-Jewish
Israeli raids have targeted and killed [100] Palestinians in the Gaza strip (the open-air prison Israel maintains, which no one is allowed to leave although they are civilians who have not been charged much less accused, tried, or convicted of any crime). While collateral damage is widespread, with many innocent civilians being killed by precision state-of-the-art Israeli weaponry, Israel claim members of the group Hamas among them. The Israeli government uses the pretext that it is blaming Hamas for the deaths of the three Israeli teens -- with no evidence, no trial, no formal accusation, no conviction, no due process at all.  More

GUESTS: Mohammad’s cousin Amal Abu Khadeir and Tarek’s aunt Sanah Abu Khadeir. Special thanks to Haia Radwan, Uprising's newest intern, for help with this story.

Mainstream Media: "Shadows of Liberty" (video)

Freedom of speech? Not in mainstream
The documentary "Shadows of Liberty" had a very quiet US premiere at the National Conference for Media Reform in Denver. The mainstream media made sure of that. Using individual cases of journalists whose attempts to tell startling stories about why things really happen only to be muzzled by corporations and the US government, the film shows how a corporate-controlled media silences the truth about issues ranging from war to labor abuses. In one instance, CBS refused to re-air an investigation by the prize-winning journalist Roberta Baskin on Nike's use of sweatshop labor in Vietnam.

National Conference for Media Reform
LONDON - WikiLeaks' editor-in-chief Julian Assange, CorpWatch's executive director P. Chatterjee, documentary filmmaker Jean-Philippe Tremblay, and the Bertha Foundation's director of legal advocacy Jen Robinson discuss disintegrating press freedoms in the mainstream media following the private UK premiere of SHADOWS OF LIBERTY. This powerful documentary takes an intrepid journey through the dark corridors of the American corporate media landscape, where global media conglomerates exercise extraordinary political, social, and economic power. They have the power to make war, prevent peace, and affect policies of every kind. The overwhelming collective power of these firms raises troubling questions about democracy.
