Why we love the LORD who hates (video)

Editors, Wisdom Quarterly; Lorde; Clevver.com, Clevver News; Shalom Auslander

What do Justin Bieber, Lana Del Rey, Britney Spears, and Amanda Bynes have in common? Aside from losing their childhood innocence to fame, money, illegal drugs, and the Illuminati? They have all been bashed by pop superstar Lorde!

G-d d-mn, I hate filthy sinners!
You think Lorde is bad? What about "the Lord"? The Lord is a name for the many Gods of the Judeo-Christian Bible -- Yahweh, El, Elohim, Adonai, and many other titles and personal names, many of them plural, even as we all pretend it's a monotheistic "there's only one God" faith that somehow emerged from a rich polytheistic history.

Hope you're not tracking my sins, God.
The Bible was not rewritten to make it monotheistic, just translated in ways to cover up its polytheism. But no one covers up how angry their "angry God" is. So more honest readers, or those familiar with more than one biblical language -- Greek, Coptic (Egyptian), Aramaic, Hebrew, Latin, and so on -- say, "There's only one true God" as if all the other ones in the Bible are fake. And "God is love...but don't read the Old Testament because that was the old deal; here's the new deal."

Who's even keeping score? - Come on, dad.
Why does this angry, jealous, proud God, this GROUP of Gods, constantly referring to themselves in chapter after chapter of their bestseller in the plural, HATE so much?

"God is love"? Many Christian fundamentalists and Jews say different: Who can argue with Shalom Auslander's many points? Has any Christian read the Book of Judges (Sefer Shoftim, ספר שופטים, is the seventh book of the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Bible), the Old Testament where the Christian Gods (the Lord) revel in war, command killings, and order other atrocities?

Foreskin's Lament by Shalom Auslander on reading the Bible as history and realizing what it means to be a punishing God's "chosen people."

The Bible is dangerous reading.
Is it any wonder that Christians may be the world's most formidable terrorists, crusaders, invaders, rapists, conquistadors, (hypocrites?), enslavers, sexists, patriarchs... The God(s) of the Bible revel in cruelty, revenge, destruction, punishment, smiting, scaring, threatening. And yet we love it/him/them. It must be Stockholm Syndrome at work deep in our earthling psyches.

Christian forgeries?
"The Old Testament doesn't count!" Come on, we're modern people. God only became love in the New Testament? Angry dad, happy son, no mother, mysterious dove -- this is the "Holy Family"? What about giving Asherah, prana (the real "holy spirit," the subtle-breath full of chi), Mary, and direct mystical experience their due? The Catholics (and Buddhists) give Mary (as Guan Yin) plenty of attention, and we don't know who Asherah is.
God wants us to stone, kill, rampage

God is love? Not in the early Bible (video)

4. And the Lord said unto Moses,
"This is the land I promised you,
but you shall not enter. Psych."

5. And Moses died.

DEUTERONOMY
Please, Almighty, don't kill me.
1. When I was a child, my parents and teachers told me about a man who was very strong. They told me he could destroy the whole world. They told me he could lift mountains. They told me he could part the sea. It was important to keep the man happy. When we obeyed what the man had commanded, the man liked us. He liked us so much that he killed anyone who didn't like us. But when we didn't obey what he had commanded, he didn't like us. He hated us. Some days he hated us so much, he killed us; other days, he let other people kill us. We call these days "holidays." On Purim, we remembered how the Persians tried to kill us. On Passover, we remembered how the Egyptians tried to kill us. On Chanukah, we remembered how the Greeks tried to kill us.

—Blessed is He, we prayed.
  • Buddhism and the God-Idea (PDF)
  • My religious education in brief: First Christianity (all of the Abrahamic faiths) tells us, "This is sin, that is sin, and all that over there is sin. Don't do any of those! You're free to go, have fun, but remember: If you do do any them, you had better feel afraid and guilty because, you just wait, you're going to get it! Welcome to Earth. That's just the way it is. Merry Christmas, motherf----r!"
Thou shalt fear, read this book, and obey it!
As bad as these punishments could be, they were nothing compared to the punishments meted out to us by the man himself. Then there would be famines. Then there would be floods. Then there would be furious vengeance. Hitler might have killed the Jews, but this man drowned the world. This was the song we sang about him in kindergarten: "God is here, God is there, God is truly everywhere!."

Then snacks, and a fitful nap.

I was raised like a veal in the Orthodox Jewish town of Monsey, New York, where it was forbidden to eat veal together with dairy. Having eaten veal, one was forbidden to eat dairy for six hours; having eaten dairy, one was forbidden to eat veal for three hours. One was forbidden to eat pig forever, or at least until the Messiah arrived; it was then, Rabbi Napier had taught us in the fourth grade, that the wicked would be punished, the dead would be resurrected, and pigs would become kosher.

—Yay! I said, high-fiving my best friend, Dov.

—You should be so excited, said Rabbi Napier, peering with disgust over the top of his thick horn-rimmed glasses, —on the Day of God's Judgment.

Cut it, or you're not kosher. (GR)
The people of Monsey were terrified of God, and they taught me to be terrified of Him, too — they taught me about a woman named Sarah who would giggle, so He made her barren; about a man named Job who was sad and asked, —Why?, so God came down to the Earth, grabbed Job by the collar, and howled, —Who the f*ck do you think you are?; about a man named Moses, who escaped from Egypt, and who roamed through the desert for forty years in search of a Promised Land, and whom God killed just before he reached it—face-plant on the one-yard line—because Moses had sinned, once, forty years earlier. His crime? Hitting a rock. And so, in early autumn, when the leaves choked, turned colors, and fell to their deaths, the people of Monsey gathered together in synagogues across the town and wondered, aloud and in unison, how God was going to kill them: —Who will live and who will die, they prayed, —
  • who at his predestined time and who before his time,
  • who by water and who by fire,
  • who by sword,
  • who by beast,
  • who by famine,
  • who by thirst,
  • who by storm,
  • who by plague,
  • who by strangulation, and
  • who by stoning.
Then lunch, and a fitful nap.

Man, they had it rough. So actually I helped God.
It is Monday morning, six weeks after my wife and I learned that she is pregnant with our first child, and I am stopped at a traffic light. The kid doesn't have a chance. It's a trick. I know this God; I know how He works. The baby will be miscarried, or die during childbirth, or my wife will die during childbirth, or they'll both die during childbirth, or neither of them will die and I'll think I'm in the clear, and then on the drive home from the hospital, we'll collide head-on with a drunk driver and they'll both die later, my wife and child, in the emergency room just down the hall from the room where only minutes ago we stood so happy and alive and full of promise.

That would be so God. More

Israel kills children, bombs hospital (video)

Israel bombs Gaza’s only rehab hospital: staff forced to evacuate patients after shelling

(IA) The War Around Us recently nabbed the best feature documentary award at the Newport Beach Film Festival. It profiles Israel's 2008-2009 invasion of Gaza through the eyes of two young English correspondents working for Al-Jazeera (the only major media outlet willing to work in Gaza and show the other side of Israel's war crimes that the very calculated Israeli war machine and public relations campaign does not want shown to the world), Ayman Mohyeldin and Sherine Tadros.
  • What is Gaza? It is at once the largest open-air prison, making Israel the largest jailer in the world, even beyond the USA and China, and the most densely populated urban city in the world (almost two million detainees).
  • According to "The Lab" the real reason for these atrocities, crimes against humanities, and Israel's incremental genocide  is to test American-made and provided weaponry. Israel only acts with American aid, permission, and direction. the purpose is ethnic cleaning with whatever pretext comes to hand, such as the "kidnapping of three Israeli settler youth" from yet another illegal Israeli settlement.
Through their eyes, viewers get a glimpse into the Israeli incursion on the 25-by-7-mile Gaza strip. Israel's Jewish military (with compulsory military service demanded of all Jews of a certain age, including women but exempting ultra-Orthodox Jews, to gain Israeli citizenship) killed nearly 1,400 Palestinians [89 children by Israel's own "official" count, which is to say those it could not deny or obscure] and 13 Israelis (four from friendly fire). Christian God had a wife: Asherah

Dhr. Seven, Crystal Qutinero, Wisdom Quarterly; news.discovery.com
God has a wife? Wife, what wife? The Bible says so? Maybe it's wrong. I mean...
.
The divine consort Radha (WQ)
God, also known as Yahweh [YHWH], had a wife named Asherah, according to a British theologian.

Amulets, figurines, inscriptions and ancient texts, including the Bible, reveal Asherah's once prominent standing.

God's wife, whom the Book of Kings [a part of the Christian Bible] suggests was worshiped alongside Yahweh in his temple in Israel, according to Oxford scholar.

Meet God's Judeo-Christian Wife, Asherah
No to Asherah: religious sexism (gophoto.us)
In 1967, Raphael Patai was the first historian to mention that the ancient Israelites worshiped both Yahweh and Asherah. The theory has gained new prominence due to the research of Professor of Hebrew Bible and Ancient Religion Francesca Stavrakopoulou, who began her work at Oxford and is a senior lecturer in [UPDATE: she is now Head of] the Department of Theology and Religion at the University of Exeter.
Ishtar and Mary used to matter
Information presented in Stavrakopoulou's books, lectures, and academic journal papers has become the basis of a three-part documentary series, now airing in Europe, where she discusses the Yahweh-Asherah connection.

"You might know him as Yahweh, Allah, or God. But on this fact, Jews, Muslims, and Christians, the people of the great Abrahamic religions, are agreed: There is only one of Him," writes Stavrakopoulou in a statement released to the British media. "He is a solitary figure, a single, universal creator [like Great Brahma in Hinduism and Buddhism], not one God among many [like the devas]...or so we like to believe." More

Wisdom Quarterly to go Baptist (cartoon)

I. Rony, Wisdom Quarterly, April 1, 2014
Another Lord, or avatar, is born unto the world! The Sun of the Sky is now the Son of Man but still the Son of God, the Father, and that Pigeon the Holy Spirit.

Christ, Budai, Chrisna, Holy Cow, Tiki
Given that Lord Jesus -- like Lord Vishnu, and Lord Brahma, Lord Sakra -- was a Buddhist, our work is done.

Wisdom Quarterly: American Baptist Journal will be going Protestant, fundamentalist Christian and literalist. So when the Holy Bible says, "Thou shalt not," we shall not.

And when it says, "Thou shalt," for example, "not suffer a 'witch' [a wise person or pharmacist] to live or tolerate sassy children who sass their parents," we shall "stone them to death" as literally commanded.

Why for? For the Lord God hath said so, and who are we to argue with the Controller, All-Knower, and Everywhere-Be'er? Maybe we should change our name to Faith Daily: U.S. Christian Diary.

Now that God gave us this child, I was thinking to name him Stewie. - I was thinking Jessie.

Better PR and humble, if fetishistic, hygiene
But, you know, the New Testament is a lot more Jesus-friendly than that creepy Father-friendly first part.

Maybe we won't be fundamentalists, but still very literal. When the new-and-improved Bible, which leaves off that Jewish-heavy winner-writes-the-history first part, says: Our creed(s) is this,

Our New Creed
A new creed means a new uptight lifestyle
"We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, begotten of the Father, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; By whom all things were made; Who for us men [not women, slaves, or animals], and for our salvation, came down and was incarnate and was made man [a tulku]; He suffered, and the third day he rose again, ascended into heaven; From thence he shall come [reincarnate again] to judge the quick and the dead. And in the Holy Ghost [spirit, breath of life, prana]."

Why Baptist?
Well, truth be told, we needed a B sect. That way we won't have to alter our letterhead that much -- out with the Budh (awakening), in with the Bapt (napping).

Buddhism was too free, too much about individual responsibility. It's concise propaganda statements of faith like this, which every Christian is forced to agree with, that really sells seats and pews.

Like us, God the Father probably likes TV (TIR)
Because, you know, like, "God so loved the world that [He didn't bother to come Himself but sent his young son in His place because He was probably busy with other stuff]."

On second thought, we may be going Catholic instead, not literally "universalist" but we can enlist in the army of the Holy Roman Empire. It's not so bad, what with the new and improved Papa (Father, Pontiff, Pope), His Holiness il Papa Francisco de Argentina, CEO Pope Francis I. At least Catholicism kept one symbolic woman (the Kwan Yin Mother Mary), and that way we can still be members of Pussy Riot singing the Punk Prayer.

The Exorcist priest got possessed
The Evil Pope (Cardinal Ratzinger, who by his own admission was once a Nazi, Pope John Paul II's right hand man), Benedict Arnold XVI, abdicated the throne. But his Chief Pontificate(r) history is amazing: He ran the "Holy Inquisition," which got a nice name change to the "Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith," according to former Catholic-insider now Episcopalian priest Mathew Fox. Maybe we should convert to EAS or the world's newest religion Jediism or Peter's faith:

Not easy being Father, harder to be His kids
(FOX) When Peter's dad visits the Griffins, he tries to impose his religious beliefs. Son Stewie ends up living in a bubble, and father Peter searches for a new religion. He find faith in his TV  hero the holy spirit of the Fonz. But "Happy Days" are not here: the newly established Church of the Fonz struggles to keep members.
