How to find love on OkCupid, Match (audio)

Ashley Wells, Amber Larson, Seth Auberon, CC Liu, Wisdom Quarterly; Caitlin Roper (Senior Ed., wired.com); "AirTalk" (SCPR.org, Can a few words turn us into successful online daters?
What? We met online! It's like we've known each other for years. Miley is our role model!

Annoying Ugly Duckling transformed. Who?
Trying to look attractive on online dating profiles? Take up yoga or surfing.

According to WIRED’s analysis of “massive amounts of data” from popular dating sites OkCupid and Match.com, what people say in their profiles may play a role in how attractive other users find them to be. (Continued with audio below this simple How To).

How To Score Dates on Match.com

10. Tell them right up front: "NO DRAMA!!!"
First, set your standards high. Way high. It's like my firstborn's father used to say, "Aim for the stars to hit the moon." Second, be firm. Stand your ground. Don't let anybody cross your boundaries. Three, set boundaries. You've got to tell him/her right on the first date. I didn't pay Match.com good money to date a scrub. Fourth, go light on the pictures. God knows, if they're really interested, they'll wait. Whose going to want to buy Coca-Cola in cans when he/she can get Pepsi in plastic? Think. D'uh. Fifth, don't wear your heart on your shoulder. But a chip is OK. Six, make sure there grammer is impecable.

Think his dialing finger broke?
Six, don't ask about money or a job. But keep an eye on their shoes and where they take you. That'll tell you ALL you need to know. I'm out to protect myself. Seven, make your expectations known right up front. Speak your mind; don't edit. Do you have time to waste? Because I don't have time to waste! If you don't want commitment, marriage, a house, kids, and all of it on my internal-clock's schedule, why are you wasting my time? Eighth, read The Secret and Law of Attraction, and Cosmo, and let the man chase. There are plenty of fish in the sea. What makes you think you're so special? The same probably holds true for thespians. Ninth, find me on Match, J Date, Christian Singles, Buddhist Singles, Agnostic Singles, or Catpeople for Catpeople, and let me know how it goes. Remember, "My package, my rules!" It's a lot of steps, but here they are all summarized in this short instructional video:

WARNING: Corporate situations, sexual references, language, Riff Raff!

In the good old days, no one had sex. Wink
A hard look at the 1,000 most popular words on the site and how attractive the people who use them are rated shows that the “hottest” men talk about oceans, breakfast, and live music.

The women mention fitness, Radiohead, and fashion. Attractive people of both genders overwhelmingly mention yoga, surfing, and London [associated with well heeled travel or the London Olympics?]

Another common theme for the most attractive online daters is some breaking of gender norms: Women interested in technology and men who mention crafting are rated very attractive.

That's? No way! Yes way. (DailyMail.co.uk)
Are we a culture of "Karma Police" listening, yoga enjoying, Anglophiles?

Is the dating pool on sites like OkCupid and Match self-selecting? Does online attractiveness translate to in-person chemistry?
Maybe whom we meet is due to our "Karma Police" - Ashley

Power of SEDUCTION in daily life (video)

Chen Lizra (TEDx Talks, Vancouver, 2013), CC Liu (ed.), Wisdom Quarterly

With nearly a decade of experience in the animation industry -- working on projects for MTV, TVA, Alliance Atlantis, Mainframe Entertainment, and Radical Entertainment -- Chen Lizra's intellect, imagination, and creative thinking evolved her into a branding expert.

[Think of the mark placed on cattle, slaves, or the shamed.]

Boys love to show off. Charming?
In 2009 and 2012 Chen was nominated as one of the "YWCA Women of Distinction in Vancouver" and was recently honored by the Australian government with a Distinguished Talent Permanent Visa for her international achievements in the arts.

As the international author of My Seductive Cuba, a UniqueTravel Guide, Chen has won two awards in the US, including the prestigious IPPY Book Award. With a passion for dance and creative movement, Lizra offers students "seduction workshops" and focused lectures and seminars about the art of seduction in our everyday lives.

TEDx: In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

My cartoon ART is your perception

Amber Larson, Seven, CC Liu, Wisdom Quarterly; Arkiharha (Scandinavian comic artist Saara, 18, Weekday-Illusion and Arkiharha.Sarjakuvablogit.com)
What artist would ruin her art by telling anyone what it actually meant? It's as personal to me as it is to you...unless Maroon 5 discovers you on Flickr. Then it's as personal as Adam's agent says Following interpretations not that of the artist! (Arkiharha/flickr)
The artist Arkiharha, Saara, writes in Finnish.
What is "art" but a statement, one transcending language? A flag should bear no words. Words, on the one hand, formalize ideas. Images, on the other hand, allow for free-form associations, eidetic, ripe connotations, sly symbolic suggestions, eerie emaciated thinking full of emotions...

See. See me. Who do you really see?
It's a different use of cognition, exploiting this or that hemisphere of the brain, if that theory of a difference holds any weight. We use both sides all of the time!

What it means to the artist is interesting, but what it means to the viewer is almost all that actually matters.

I'm a fat American on the Web. I search startpage.com and kuh-ching. I find it! My dream dating site for seniors -- Carbon Dating. Ooh, look at these elder honeys. What should I write? Hi, my is Joe Blow, and I've got lots of cash... This is funnier than the Finnish version.

Cry or don't cry. It's better not to cry, crybaby.
This is why artists tend to avoid defining their works. Why add a definitive interpretation that might wipe out other equally valid interpretations? It's "Zen."

Why ask me what I mean when we could all be asking, "What does it mean to me?"? Questions are only for those who question.

Is there any meaning in the ravings of artists and lunatics?

Is there any sense in the assertions of critics and passive lovers of art? I mean, what does "Pussy Riot" mean exactly? Nadia can explain, but people will think something else.
Even "Buddhist art" -- which often symbolizes a narrative or lesson more than existing for its own sake or for devotional abuses -- is what it is to the viewer more than the maker. To be sure, most makers have something in mind.

But in the end, it's the art that meets the eye, the beauty that beholds it more than the beauty beheld by the eye that counts.

Despicable Me for all to see

I know! I'll become an "artist"! Then I can really live!
I saw a dead steer in the sun, worm oozing from its eye. I cried. My tears watered the desert. I took a death cross, set it in the sun, smoked, and let the worms win.
Girls night out! But I met a guy. It's every gal for herself! Look at the time. Where is she? Let's forget our pact and leave without her! You look different in the morning.

Study: How many dates before sex?

Ashley Wells, Seven, Wisdom Quarterly; Kelly Bourdet, Refinery29 (Shine.Yahoo, 9-13-13)
Look, you're a nice girl and all, but I just want to wait and get to know you a little better.

Conservative mystery date (TMW)
A study...from Business Insider and Survey Monkey delves deep into the ever-changing connection between sex and love in America.

And while this is by no means an academic study, it does offer some interesting insights into our romantic lives.

Let's get sexually statistical (Business Insider)
How are we finding dates? No surprise, online dating is a growing means of meeting that special someone. How are we asking people out? Apparently, a text message dinner-and-drive-in invite is becoming increasingly prevalent.

Nothing too crazy there, but the most interesting trends have to do with what we want (physically) out of our dating lives and when, exactly, we want it. More
