Mt. Everest to close for the season (audio)

Sherpas -- members of a Himalayan ethnic group renowned for their skill at high-altitude climbing -- are crucial to operations on Mount Everest.

They earn a mere $3,000-5,000 risking their lives helping others scale the mountain during each two-to-three-month climbing season. They do on a regular basis what others pay to accomplish just once in a lifetime, putting their lives at great risk for affluent clients due to poverty they are never able to emerge from.

Last Friday, an avalanche roared down a climbing route on Everest, killing 13 Sherpa guides and leaving three others missing. When it occurred the Sherpas, who have centuries of history in Nepal's alpine region, were working at 21,000 feet, fixing ropes and preparing the path ahead of peak mountaineering season.

Who climbs Mt. Everest without a Sherpa?
As the Sherpa community mourns the loss of family members and friends, the group is considering an unprecedented move: a strike.

On Sunday, disappointed by the Nepali government’s offer of 40,000 rupees ($408) as compensation for the families of each of the dead, some Sherpas gathered at Everest’s base camp to propose a “work stoppage” that could disrupt or cancel the 334 expeditions planned for the 2014 climbing season.

Ellen Barry, South Asia Bureau Chief for The New York Times, says while Sherpas have lived with these conditions for many years, last week's accident changed things.

"I think just the magnitude of the loss of life from Friday's accident has prompted very unusual decisions," she says. More

The Yeti or Migoi (BhutanCanada.org)
In our search for apemen, other species of humans, human-hybrids, and cryptoids, Western researchers get more than they bargained for -- the preserved body of a Yeti [Migoi, pronounced meh-goor, a Yakṣī (यक्षी)] in Buddhist Bhutan. What is a Yeti to the Bhutanese, inhabitants of the world's last Himalayan Buddhist kingdom? A Nat Geo team of investigators went looking for concrete evidence "like DNA," says Oxford's Dr. Bryan Sykes. Strange tissue so far recovered turned out to be a subspecies of brown bear never before seen. Of course, that sample does not explain the five-toed, clawless footprints and the many eyewitness accounts of something that is much more than a bear. Bhutanese Vajrayana Buddhists call them "demons" (rakshasas) and consider Yetis killers. As a result more than one has been killed, and their remains are kept as cautionary relics, 100% proof for locals who fear them alive.

Nat Geo goes to Buddhist Bhutan
Mark Evans with cast of Bigfoot print (NG)
But wait. Nat Geo now believes in the firm scientific basis for Yeti? Yes, but to please the powers that be, the question has been shifted to, Is it a type of officially extinct bear? To find out for sure, Nat Geo sent Mark Evans and a team to the spectacular Himalayas. They went in search of the legend and discovered that Yeti creatures are deeply embedded in local legend. Meanwhile, Oxford Professor Bryan Sykes had some extraordinary samples to test: hairs from a Nazi Yeti killed in Tibet in the 1930's, samples from a Tengmo (the Yeti of Ladakh, in Buddhist India) shot in the early 1970's, and a mystery hair collected in Bhutan in 2001. When Prof. Sykes reveals the results, they are surprising, and could potentially identify the biological identity behind the Yeti legend. More

Bigfoot corpse (Rick Dyer)
This classic episode of Mysterious World is a lively documentary investigating evidence for the Himalayan Buddhists'  Yeti and the North American "Bigfoot" (Sasquatch). Lester Davies talks about finding Yeti footprints that lead from snow, across water, to snow on the other bank. Davies estimates the Yeti to be 840 lbs. (60 stone) and 8 feet tall, for it crossed the waterway by simply stepping out onto two legs after having been in frigid water in which Davies sank down to his armpits. Dr. Grover Krantz, an anthropologist at Oregon State University, tracks Sasquatch. The academic is attempting to kill a single specimen for science after carefully studying footprint evidence and sightings by reputable witnesses.

"Yeti lives"! Abominable Snowman still roams the Himalayas

Some Yetis are brute cannibals (yakshis)
Research by an University of Oxford scientist has found a genetic match between an ancient polar bear and samples said to come from the Yeti -- suggesting the creature known as the "Abominable Snowman" is definitely still living in the Himalayas. More

Man-bears are humans not bears (wired.com)
But the word for "bear" is widely used for black bears in lower altitudes, brown bears in higher altitudes, the Wildman (Migoi) or "man-bear," and also the Mitchim. This use of the general word "bear" does not limit it to our Western nomenclature or classification system. There are human creatures that are not bears, ogres who are much bigger with human features, conical heads, chimp noses and otherwise bare human faces, with bodies covered in hair. They have their own language and calls, which ordinary humans are incapable of making.

Woman found who lives with Yeti
This woman lived with a giant Yeti (NatGeo)
Moreover, Sarah Seymour of the Nat Geo Team found a woman who for six years periodically lived with a Migoi or "Abominable Snowman." Villagers searched for her but could not find her because the creature hid her in a cave. She would go missing for days at a time in the wilderness, where she was unable to fend for herself, yet she would return in perfect condition each time. She claims the creature she stayed with would bring and give her whatever she wanted. (This is exactly like the Buddhist sutra where the Buddha interacted with the Yakkha Alavaka, a Yeti, who had language, preternatural strength and powers, as well as human wives and was called a "cannibal" because of its penchant for eating humans). It is no bear, and she would gladly return to it now to sleep with it in its cave, but the villagers would worry and search for her if she did. It did not harm her and may even, one imagines, have mated with her.

What is the human creature the locals see?
There is a school in Buddhist Sri Lanka named Visakha Vidyalaya. Its motto comes from the Alavaka Sutra. When this creature first confronted the Buddha, he threatened to kill him. The ogre said he would utterly destroy him unless the Buddha correctly answered its questions. One of the questions was, "How is one cleansed?" (Kathansu Parisujjhati?) to which the Buddha replied, "By wisdom is one cleansed" (Paññaya parisujjhati).

Good foot, Bad foot, BIGFOOT (video)

(Whitley Strieber's Dreamland) Host Strieber interviews former police detective and missing persons investigator David Paulides (canammissing.com).

People are missing from National Parks, boulder fields, and other hotspots in the western US. Many of the cases go unsolved, many of them inexplicable far beyond ordinary abduction. Over the years, Stieber has amassed many missing persons cases as well, and the two compare notes and discuss what might be happening.

WARNING: This is a chilling and powerful topic that does not admit of any simple explanation -- other than Sasquatch, "fairies," or other dimensional creatures, and/or extraterrestrial and subterranean civilizations. Paulides does not make a definitive declaration about what he concludes. But having listened to more than 12 hours of interviews with him, it becomes clear that the truth is far stranger than fiction or simply Bigfoot, creatures who are at least partly human and hominids. Boulders are the key as explored in paranormal Iceland.

Sasquatch CentralDave W. relates a true story of a camping trip that he and his parents were on in the summer of 1969 when he was 7 years old. His memory is as fresh today as the day it happened and we can hear why. Dave wandered away from his parents' campsite late in the afternoon. Before long, as dark began to settle in around him, he noticed he could no longer hear the voices of his family. After calling out for some time with no response and the forest growing darker, he began to cry for his mother. Before long he heard heavy footsteps moving through the brush getting closer. Then emerging from the darkness was a huge "monkey man" as he called it back then except it was no male but a female Sasquatch with clearly visible breasts.

Aggressive juvenile "demon" (rakshasa)
Mike Wooley talks to Tom from The Crypto Crew (CryptoWatch) about his face to face encounter with two very aggressive Bigfoot creatures near Many, Louisiana in December 1981. They were chasing deer while he was hunting them from a stand. One creature chased a small doe before realizing Wooley saw it from the deer stand. He then menaced him -- with "evil, Satanic" eyes, teeth clicking, and a low growl -- before whistling for back up and chasing Wooley out of the woods.

In fear we kill

(CW) Bigfoot encounter and shooting one of these beings 2013, a Crypto Crew exclusive. This phone interview with a murderer who encounters two Sasquatches ends with one of them dead. The game warden refused to take the information. Then government agents show up to cover up the incident.
All of this is fun. But the evidence is now conclusive and peer reviewed (Ketchum, et. al.) Moreover, more compelling audio evidence has been around for a long time. Not only are there corpses, there are ongoing relationships with Sasquatch individuals, who are at least partly human. These three stories do show a range of mystery and individual temperament because the worst thing we could do is think that they are all the same, "demons" or "guardians" of the forest, anymore than thinking humans or human groups are all the same. Finally, it is foolish to think that elements within the government are ignorant of the phenomenon. Just as they study the paranormal and keep their findings secret, they are well aware of this class of creatures and have their reasons for maintaining the secrecy of their findings if only to promote our misguided view of the story of how we evolved on this planet  (see Lloyd Pye on that count).

Yeti rapes woman in China = hybrid (video)

Pat Macpherson, Wisdom Quarterly; Epic Wildlife (Twitter) (SPECULATION)

Zhangjiajie, China (bbs.chinadaily.com.cn)
Our "monster" quest continues. In the following incredible account, a "Bigfoot (Chinese Yeren)-human hybrid man" was found in China.

Footage of the human-hybrid was taken in Sichuan Province. It is being described as the "Chinese Hybrid Man" or "Yeren Ape Man." His mother's account of how he came to be born is the incredible part.

The story goes that the boy's mother claimed that she was kidnapped by a Yeren (Yeti), the Chinese "Wildman" or Chinese version of Bigfoot. (See video below).

Shanxi (BreenJones/flickr)
He allegedly raped her repeatedly before she managed to escape back to her village.

Nine months later she gave birth to a strange boy who grew to be abnormally large and apelike, displaying more features we attribute to prehistoric (paleolithic) humans rather than modern ones.

Although he was never able to speak a language, he gained a minimal understanding of what people were trying to say to him. He lived to be 33 years old. But because he was kept a secret and hidden in a small village, not much is known about him.

Munn and Gigantopithecus
Is he a "bastard son of a Bigfoot creature"? One alternative explanation is that he was born with microcephaly (small brain), which is a neurodevelopmental disorder that causes abnormal head growth, poor brain function, and a diminished life expectancy. Skeptics who advance this explanation go on to suggest that the mother must have been ashamed of having a retarded, malformed baby and made up the story about being raped by a Bigfoot to explain the anomaly.

The problem with this explanation, however, is that it does not explain the size of this hybrid looking man: No previous case of microcephaly has ever been very tall.

In addition, he displays many ape-like characteristics such as an ape-like jaw, extremely long and gangly arms, and lacks a human neck. Is he half human, half animal (ape)? Is the human hybrid ape man found in China real or fake?

(Bigfoot Evidence)

There is mounting evidence of a bipedal creature in California's Sierra Nevada mountain range. Bigfoot researchers trek in to investigate Native American stories and petroglyphs of a family of hair-covered man-beasts. They examine recently found footprint evidence and a compelling 1991 video of a supposed Bigfoot encounter at Mono Lake, east of Yosemite National Park.

Sasquatch (Sásq'ets, a catchall name for the ape-like creature) is believed to inhabit forests of the Pacific Northwest region of North America. It is described as a large, hairy, bipedal humanoid.

These creatures range from 6-10 feet (2-3 m) tall, weighing in excess of 500 pounds (230 kg), and are covered in dark brown, reddish, or white hair. Eye witnesses describe large eyes, pronounced brow ridges, and a low-set forehead. The top of the head is described as rounded and crested, similar to the sagittal crest of the male gorilla. A strong, unpleasant odor is reported. Enormous footprints have been confirmed around the world, some as large as 24 inches (60 cm) long and 8 inches (20 cm) wide. Most casts have five toes -- like all known apes -- some two to six. Some have also contained claw marks, making it likely that a portion came from known animals such as bears, which have five toes and claws. They are thought to be omnivorous and nocturnal.

Maybe Yeren is a Neanderthal as sought in adjacent Russia and Siberia. The 45 minute special below follows the search for Bigfoot (Russian Almasty, Mongolian Almas):

Native Americans know "Bigfoot" (video)

Yeti, Laos (Jenny-H-Edwards)
Monster quests are fun if a little spooky. Let us now take a look at what Native American legends say about the giant "Bigfoot." The wild man of the woods goes by many names among various First Nation peoples ("tribes"). But Sasquatch more than any other has been adopted into the American lexicon.

Wildmen stories are found throughout the world and among the indigenous US population of the Pacific Northwest from California through Canada to Alaska. These legends existed prior to a single name for the creature. They differed in their details both regionally and between families within the same community. Similar stories of wildmen are found on every continent other than barren Antarctica.

Tribal Bigfoot (Paulides)
Ecologist Robert Michael Pyle argues that most cultures have human-like giants in their folk history: "We have this need for some larger-than-life creature."

Members of the Lummi tell tales about Ts'emekwes, the local version of Bigfoot. The stories are similar to each other in terms of the general descriptions of Ts'emekwes, but details about the creature's diet and activities differ between the stories of different families.

(National Geographic) Skeptical research into Bigfoot aimed to debunk sightings, native legends, and forensic evidence. Is there a large bipedal primate out there? Film footage from 1967 captured an image of an elusive hominid. Nat Geo examines the footage and interviews trackers who claim to have encountered the frightening beast.
  • (Voice of Russia) Russians are concerned that a growing battle between bears and the "human like" Yeti [yakshi, Buddhist "ogre"] of the forests will cause trouble this winter, when the defeated bears come...
Some regional versions contain more nefarious creatures. The stiyaha or kwi-kwiyai were a nocturnal race that children were told not to say the names of lest the monsters hear and come to carry off a person -- sometimes to be killed. In 1847, Paul Kane reported stories by the native people about skoocooms: a race of cannibalistic wild men living on the peak of Mount Saint Helens. The skoocooms appear to have been regarded as supernatural rather than ordinary terrestrial beings.

Less menacing versions such as the one recorded by Rev. Elkanah Walker exist. In 1840, Walker, a Protestant missionary, recorded stories of giants among the Native Americans living in Spokane, Washington. The Indians claimed that these giants lived on and around the peaks of nearby mountains and stole salmon from the fishermen's nets.

Asian wild man ogre mask (mickjim/flickr)
Various local legends were compiled by J.W. Burns in a series of Canadian newspaper articles in the 1920s. Each language had its own name for the local version. Many names meant something along the lines of "wild man" or "hairy man" although other names described common actions it was said to perform (e.g., eating clams).

Check the DNA! I did. - Dr. Ketchum
Burns coined the term Sasquatch, which is from the Halkomelem sásq'ets and used it in his articles to describe a hypothetical single type of creature reflected in these various stories. Burns's articles popularized both the legend and its new name, making it well known in western Canada before it gained popularity in the United States.
Frontiersman Daniel Boone reported having shot and killed "a ten-foot, hairy giant he called a Yahoo." Folktale scholar Hugh H. Trotti has argued that Boone's account may have been the inspiration for some of the early Bigfoot stories told in North America.

Tibetan Yeti is real: Oxford geneticist (video)

Yeti Mystery Solved says Geneticist
Yeti hand (factfictionandconjecture.ca)
An Oxford University geneticist says he has solved the mystery of the Tibetan snow creature called Yeti (“Abominable Snowman”).

For hundreds of years the Yeti [yakshini, yakṣī, यक्षी, “ogre”] legend focuses on an ape like creature that hides in the Himalayas striking out at hunters leaving huge foot prints behind in its violent wake. Once again science stands on the verge of dispelling myth as genetic investigators present some compelling DNA evidence.

Has the Yeti mystery finally been solved?
Geneticist Bryan Sykes’ DNA testing is part of the Oxford-Lausanne Collateral Hominid Project (Wolfson College), which is also looking for genetic evidence of other mysterious creatures like Sasquatch in the U.S. Pacific Northwest and the Almasty in Russia. People from all over the world submitted samples to the project along with detailed descriptions in response to Prof. Sykes’ global call for said samples.

  • 5 Strange Bigfoot Theories (videos) While Bigfoot seems like a North American phenomenon, there are tales of giant "wildmen" around the world -- from the Tibetan Yeti to the Australian Yowie and Siberia's Chunchunya [and Indonesian fossil evidence]. And the Almas:
The Almas (cryptozoology)
Bill Munns/Gigantopithecus
The Almas (Mongolian Алмас, Bulgarian Алмас, Chechen Алмазы, Turkish Albıs), Mongolian for "wild man," is a purported cryptozoological species of hominid reputed to inhabit the Caucasus and Pamir Mountains of central Asia, and the Altai Mountains of southern Mongolia (Living Ape-Men: The Almas of Central Asia).

The creature is not yet officially recognized and cataloged by science. Mainstream scientists generally reject even the possibility that such mega-fauna cryptids can exist, due in part to the improbable numbers necessary thought to maintain a breeding population, and because climate and food supply issues make their survival in reported habitats unlikely (Bengt Sjögren, Berömda vidunder, Settern, 1980).

1. Gorilla 2. Australopithecus 3. Homo erectus 4. Neanderthal 5. Steinheim Skull 6. Human

Almas is a singular word in Mongolian; the properly formed Turkic plural would be almaslar. As is typical of similar legendary creatures (Bigfoot, Bigfoots) throughout Central Asia, Russia, Pakistan, and the Caucasus, the Almas is generally considered to be more akin to "wild people" in appearance and habits than to apes (in contrast to the Yeti of the Himalayas).

Male and female (Neanderthal Museum)
Almases are typically described as human-like bipedal animals, between five and six and a half feet tall, their bodies covered with reddish-brown hair, with anthropomorphic facial features including a pronounced browridge, flat nose, and a weak chin (Michael Newton, "Almas/Almasti," Encyclopedia of Cryptozoology: A Global Guide, 2005. McFarland & Company, Inc. p. 19). Many cryptozoologists believe there is a similarity between these descriptions and modern reconstructions of how Neanderthals might have appeared. More

The Himalayas (Sanskrit, hima "snow" + ālaya "dwelling," the "abode of the snow" and home of the Yeti) is a mountain range in Asia separating the plains of the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau claimed by China.

The Himalaya, as it is also known, is home to some of the planet's highest peaks, including the highest, Mt. Everest. The range includes over 100 mountains exceeding a height of 7,200 meters (23,600 ft). By contrast, the highest peak outside of Asia -- Aconcagua, in the Andes -- is 6,961 meters (22,838 ft.). These mountains have profoundly shaped the cultures of South Asia, many of its peaks being sacred to both Buddhists and Hindus.

MONSTER QUEST (History Channel via Esoteric Haven) Gathering evidence over the past century of the existence of the yaksha Yeti, the Abominable Snowman, we follow an expedition into the Himalayas in search of this nocturnal creature attacking villagers and slaughtering yaks. The Yeti is an ape-like cryptid taller than a human, similar to the lowland Bigfoot, inhabiting the Himalayan region of Nepal and Tibet. The names Meh-Teh (man-bear) and Mi-göi (Tibetan, "wild man"), Bun Manchi (Sherpa, "jungle man"), Mirka (Nepalese, "wild-man"), and Kang Admi (Snow Man) are commonly used by the indigenous Buddhist people, for whom these creatures are central in history and mythology. The cryptozoology community regards the Yeti as a legend.

    The Himalayan range is vast
Apart from the Greater Himalayas of these high peaks, there are parallel lower ranges. The first foothills, reaching about 1,000 meters along the northern edge of the plains, are called the Sivalik Hills or Sub-Himalayan Range. Further north is a higher range reaching 2,000-3,000 meters known as the Lower Himalayan or Mahabharat Range.

They abut or cross five countries: Bhutan, India, Nepal, China, and Pakistan (formerly Gandhara, which includes Afghanistan and the Hindu Kush, which is technically also a part of the Himalayas), with the first three countries having sovereignty over most of the range. They are bordered on the northwest by the Karakoram and Hindu Kush ranges, on the north by the Tibetan Plateau, and on the south by the Indo-Gangetic Plain.

Three of the world's major rivers -- the Indus (from which "Hinduism" gets its name), the Ganges, and the Tsangpo-Brahmaputra all rise near Mount Kailash to cross and encircle the Himalayas. Their combined drainage basin is home to some 600 million people.

Lifted by the collision of the Indian tectonic plate with the Eurasian Plate, the range runs west-northwest to east-southeast in an arc 2,400 kilometers (1,500 miles) long.

    Where to find Bigfoot(s)
Marc Lallanilla, Assistant Editor (LiveScience.com, 9-19-13)

Reported sightings of Bigfoot -- the legendary apelike creature that's been a favorite of cryptozoologists for decades -- have abounded for decades [centuries if one counts the testimony of Native American tribes]. Now, for the first time, someone has created a map showing the places where alleged Bigfoot sightings have occurred.

Joshua Stevens, a doctoral candidate at Pennsylvania State University, used data compiled by the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO), which tries to document "the presence of an animal, probably a primate, that exists today in very low population densities," according to the group's website. [He] plotted 3,313 data points showing where people have claimed to see Bigfoot (aka Sasquatch, Skunk Ape, Yeti, Skookum...)More
    Bigfoot exists

(WQ) Many sincere Americans are hot on the search for the elusive North American Bigfoot (Sasquatch). Often seen, often photographed, often leaving forensic evidence (hair, DNA-rich follicles, footprints, sound recordings of otherworldly howling), and well known to the governments who continue to deny and mystify their existence as another human or semi-human species for reasons only they know, Bigfoot evidence is not hard to come by; it is impossible to certify. The gatekeepers and knowledge filterers in academia and mainstream outlets will not stand for it. They would sooner admit that extraterrestrials, PSI activity, various forms of astrology, and subterranean carnivores are real. This is far from the best available evidence, and that is exactly why it is suddenly getting attention. If it could not be debunked (by the fact, e.g., that the face of the creature does not move just like a mask is expressionless or that high definition video has poor definition), we would not be allowed to see it on a large scale. Those who search will find a great deal of plausible evidence, such as that of Dr. Ketchum's recent DNA analysis and more DNA data being confirmed by a group that will be much more careful how they release the information this time.
