National Burger Day, U.S.A.

Weird Things Our Families Eat (That We Unabashedly Love)
There are yummy vegetarian things our families eat (that we unabashedly love)!
The Moosewood Collective says, “Our all-time favorite, luscious burgers the way we make them now: Vegan and wheat-free. “Tofu burgers have been a favorite at the restaurant since we can remember. Our customers often call to ask, “Are tofu burgers on the menu today?” In the early years, we served them on a thick slice of whole wheat toast with lettuce, tomato slices, and Russian dressing. Now we serve them... (Jim Scherer)

Wednesday, May 28, 2014, more than a month before it's needed, is National Burger Day. Presumably we're celebrating carnage like that of the Battle of Hamburger Hill.

Now, what if it were possible to have flavor, health, and compassion? What if National Burger Day could be celebrated in style free of heart attacks, cancer, obesity, bad karma, a jump in cholesterol (as our body tries to protect itself against the free radicals we're dumping in with animal flesh, acrylamides, and fermented toxins used in flesh burgers), or harm to the environment?

It is possible! We do it all the time. There are so many center "patty" options, and the best we've found is the amazing new Hilary's Hemp & Greens Burger at Lassens (online).

10 Meat-free Grilling Tips
Lassens edited by Wisdom Quarterly
Grilled blocks of barbecue-flavored tofu (SH)
The start of summer is the perfect time to enjoy delicious, sizzling meals straight off the grill! As we get set to fire up our BBQ grills, instead of the ugly and likely germ and GMO-contaminated flesh fare, cook up some grilled veggies instead. Going flesh free means opening up a world of many more options with smoky barbecue flavor.

The world of vegetables is amazing on the grill -- squash, tofu, hemp seed, onions, tempeh, garlic, quinoa, tomato, lettuce greens, chives, gobo root, chia seeds, lentil, eggplant, zucchini, potato, green jack, bell pepper, beet, portabello 'shrooms, and so much more! Plus, meat-free grilling is an easy way to add nutrient rich, fiber rich, healthy seasonal produce to our diet, which reduces disease.

"Eating [any] meat, particularly red and processed meat, can increase risk of heart disease, diabetes, and various forms of cancer," says Allison Righter, MSPH, RD, Meatless Monday science adviser at the Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future.

And it's not just the amount of animal flesh someone eats -- it's also how someone cooks it. "Cooking meat at high temperatures, like pan frying and grilling/charring over an open flame, forms [toxic] chemical compounds in the meat that have also been linked to cancer," Righter says.

Kids love it -- vegan, hypoallergenic, cruelty-free, dairy-free cheese (followyourheart)

The good news is that many of these chemicals are NOT formed when grilling vegetables or fruits. "So [people] can enjoy their grilled flavor worry-free!"  So get grilling and take a break from toxic flesh with these 10 easy summer grilling tips: More

Golden potatoes are an excellent complement to cruelty-free burgers with all the fixins.

How to CLEAN up radioactivity naturally

We may make new problems, but Nature already has the solutions (brownsgas.com)

Is there anything HEMP can't do?
Fukushima? There are natural ways of dealing with radioactive contamination. Here we present three.

One is known but has always been ignored as it does not serve the petrochemical industry, the oily arm of the military-industrial complex (MIC). It is the use of Brown's gas (Co2 + H2O), which untested is dismissed as unreal, a product of water electrolysis.

The hydrogen gas produced by the H20 split burns cleanly, welds, cuts, and when used on radioactive contamination decontaminates it. How is a mystery, one not explored by a culture totally dependent on oil, gasoline, and toxic fuels and chemicals.

Mycological Society of SF (thekitchn.com)
The other two are more amazing because they occur naturally -- mushrooms (fungi, particularly the psychoactive varieties) and hemp (industrial, non-psychoactive cannabis). Paul Stamets (fungi.com) has already demonstrated the ability of mushrooms to rehabilitate soil contaminated by oil spills. How miraculous are the nature devas to be able to deal with nuclear contamination?

KOAN: Ummon's Farm Rice-Cake

Roshi Jeff Albrizee, Seven, PasaDharma.org, The Book of Equanimity, Case 78
Yum, now they're hemp-a-licious! Lundberg brand rice cakes are not as bad as popcorn.
PREFACE TO THE ASSEMBLY
When you seek the cost all over heaven, you’ll be paid the price all over the Earth.
To seek after 100 schemes is just a shame.
Isn't there some one who knows to advance and retreat, and who recognizes the duality?

MAIN CASE
Eat or fast, but mindfully with clear comprehension
Attention!
Master Ummon spoke to the assembly of monastics: “Even if a single word instantaneously puts the 10,000 differences in the same groove, including the minutest particle, it is still an expression of teaching. What is a patch-robe monastic to say? If you argue about the words of the ancestors and the buddhas, the unique way of Zen will be destroyed. Is there any one here who can put it right? If you can speak, come forward.”
Then a monk asked, “What is speech that transcends the buddhas and goes beyond the ancestors?”
Ummon replied, “Farm rice-cake.”
Then the monk asked, “What connection is there between the farm rice-cake and the speech that transcends the buddhas and ancestors?”
Master Ummon replied, “Exactly! What’s the connection? What are you calling buddhas and what are you calling ancestors?”

Eat like a wise vegetarian monastic -- healthy, tasty, and kindly (3D-pictures.feedio.net)

Ummon further explained, “Right now, is anything the matter? If you really don’t have any clue, then for a time go into yourself and investigate thoroughly on your own. In the 24 hours of the day, when you are wearing a robe, eating, defecating, and urinating, even including the flies in the latrine, is there still any speech that transcends buddhas and ancestors?”

APPRECIATORY VERSE
“Farm rice-cake” is speech that transcends buddhas and ancestors.
In this phrase there’s no flavor.
How can you penetrate it?
Zen monastics who one day know satisfaction will see no shame on Ummon’s face.

Obligate carnivores appreciate and trust kind vegetarians (3D-pictures.feedio.net)
