Forgiving in the Face of ANGER (sutra)

Dhr. Seven, Amber Larson, Wisdom Quarterly; Andrew Olendzki, Vepacitti Sutra (SN 11.4)
Churning Space: bas-relief of Samudra manthan, Angkor Wat, Cambodia, shows Vishnu in the center, in his Kurma avatar, with the asuras and the devas on either side (Wiki).
Rebel asuras, cast from deva-world by Sakka, fall to Earth (Hieronymus Bosch).

Asura Dvarapala, Borobudur (wiki)
This noble teaching on how to respond when faced with anger is placed in an ancient historical/mythical setting. The story is told by the Buddha of a great war between devas (shining ones, angels) and the asuras (titans, demons).

The devas are ultimately victorious (as happens in later Greek and Norse versions of the same myth). They capture Vepacitti [full history], a titan king. Bound in chains, he is brought to the space station of the Thirty-Three and into the presence of Sakka, King of the Devas.
Being the titan that he his, Vepacitti hurls a torrent of abuse and insulting names at his captor (the catalog of which in the commentary is most interesting). Sakka, however, is unmoved, inspiring Matali, the charioteer of his spacecraft, to begin the following poetic exchange:

The poem is in the prevalent vatta meter, with eight syllables per line, and contains much subtle word-play. For example, the words bala (fool) and bala (strong, powerful) dance with one another throughout the piece (appearing 17 times), nowhere more intimately than in the frolicking alliteration of Lines 31 and 32 (abalan-tam balam aahu yassa balaabalam balam).
  • FOOLS (Bala Sutra, Book of the Twos, AN 2.98) "Meditators, there are two fools. Who are the two? The one who takes up a burden that has not befallen one, and the one who does not take up a burden that has. These are the two fools."
A king of the titans (Evs in Nz/flickr)
The linking of the word titikkhati (forbearance) with the similarly sounding tikicchati (healing) is also a poignant touch that is hardly accidental.

This exchange shows well how the Buddha adapted the heroic ideals of his warrior's heritage to the inner struggle for self-mastery. The strength of the victorious Sakka -- who is a stream enterer having been a hearer of the Buddha's Dharma and won that attainment -- rests in his wisdom and forbearance.

The weakness of the fierce yet vanquished titan comes from his lack of understanding, earning him the label "foolish," which leaves him helpless to resist the passions raging within him.

Was Zarathustra an asura? (G6G)
Though these verses were penned thousands of years ago, their truth is timeless. It is the same truth that has helped many non-violent social and political reform movements achieve dramatic results in our own century.

Conquest is only the apparent victory of the short-sighted, while transformation of oneself and others is the more lasting "victory" of the wise. Remaining unprovoked in the face of anger and hostility still offers the best hope for healing our troubled world.
  • THE FOOLISH AND THE WISE (Bala-Pandita Sutra, AN 2.21) "Meditators, there are two foolish persons. Who are the two? The one who does not see a transgression as a transgression, and the one who does not rightly forgive another who has confessed a transgression. These are the two fools. There are two wise persons. Who are the two? The one who sees one's own transgression as a transgression, and the one who rightly forgives another who has confessed a transgression. These are the two wise persons."

Calm in the Face of Anger (verses)
[Matali:] Sakka, could it be you're afraid,
Or weak, that you forgive [khanti] like this,
Though hearing such insulting words
From the lips of Vepacitti?

[Sakka:] I am neither afraid nor weak,
Yet I forbear Vepacitti.
How is it one who knows, like me,
Would get provoked by such a fool?

[Matali:] More angry will a fool become
If no one puts a stop to him.
So let the wise restrain the fool
By the use of a mighty stick.

[Sakka:] This is the only thing, I deem,
That will put a stop to the fool:
Knowing well the other's anger,
One is mindful and remains calm.

[Matali:] This very forbearance of yours,
Sakka, I see as a mistake.
For when a fool reckons like this:
"From fear of me he does forbear,"
The dolt will come on stronger still —
Like a bull the more that one flees.

Deva Sakka defeats the dragon or naga (1st-art-gallery.com).

[Sakka:] Let him think whatever he likes:
"From fear of me he does forbear."
Among ideals and highest goods
None better than patience is found.

For surely he who, being strong,
Forbears the ones who are more weak —
Forever enduring the weak —
That is called the highest patience.

For whom strength is the strength of fools,
It is said of the strong, "He's weak!"
For the strong, guarding the Dharma,
Contentiousness is never found.

It is indeed a fault for one
Who returns anger for anger.
Not giving anger for anger,
One wins a dual-victory.

One behaves for the good of both:
Oneself and the other person.
Knowing well the other's anger,
One is mindful and remains calm.

In this way one is healing both:
Oneself and the other person.
The people who think, "He's a fool,"
Just don't understand the Dharma.

Obon means ghosts and remembering the dead

Ashley Wells, CC Liu, Wisdom Quarterly; Japanese-city.com; NHBT

I went into the sanctuary and could feel the ancestors around me (rpv-team/flickr).

What is Obon?
Animist, Buddhist, Pagan, and Catholic Mexican-Americans in Los Angeles may have the Day of the Dead (just after all ironic, nominal Christians celebrate Halloween).

But Japanese Buddhist and Shinto practitioners have much the same thing in this month's Obon Festival, which is being celebrated concurrently with the unrelated Lotus Festival and commencement of the annual Rains Retreat just a few miles apart.

Obon is an annual Buddhist event for commemorating one's ancestors. It is believed that each year during Obon, the ancestors' spirits return to this world in order to visit their relatives.

Traditionally, lanterns are hung in front of houses to guide the ancestors' spirits, Obon dances (bon odori) are performed, graves are visited, and food offerings are made at house altars and temples

At the end of Obon, floating lanterns are put into rivers, lakes and seas in order to guide the spirits back into their world. The customs followed vary strongly from region to region.

Obon is observed from the 13th to the 15th day of the 7th month of the year, which is July according to the solar calendar. However, since the 7th month of the year roughly coincides with August rather than July according to the formerly used lunar calendar, Obon is still observed in mid August in many regions of Japan, while it is observed in mid July in other regions.

The Obon week in mid August is one of Japan's three major holiday seasons, accompanied by intensive domestic and international travel activities and increased accommodation rates. In recent years, travel activity in mid August.

    Sex, kids, Republican "anti-party"? (comic)

    Protection and prayer are important
Why do British royals, holy rollers like cardinals, and Western political elites crave pedophilia so very much? Controversial David Icke explains; the may be too disturbing to countenance or accept.

Icke has been reporting on deceased Jimmy Savile's pedophilia, child trafficking, and procurement of hapless kids for years. Yet only now with the enormous BBC scandal is Icke being taken seriously.

An episode of the "Liberty Tactics" show features Icke (davidicke.com) where he discloses not only royal pedophilia that involved Princess Diana, but child abductions from orphanages and care homes, necrophilia, and abuse of mentally and physically handicapped individuals.

The BBC's Savile is notorious in England for his horrific sex abuses

    "My Body My Rights" art

The accusations are so shocking that no right thinking person can take them seriously at first. But Icke goes deeper to implicate unseen forces inspiring this aberrant behavior that even involves killing children in rich, influential circles. These forces first inspire then enter or "possess" a person and thereby engage in the activity by proxy, ruining various lives along the way.

Did the rich and powerful not invite them in to gain such power? So is it not, in that sense and to that extent, also their karma for which they will also meet with the consequences? And when Hollywood starlets say an "Illuminati" group

Hypocritical homosexual haven the Vatican, corporate Capital of Catholicism, moves "age of consent" up from 12
    I surrender. I didn't know he was 11.
(GSN) Pope Francis has announced an overhaul of the Vatican City [State] criminal code, with the age of consent raised and stiffer punishments for pedophiles within the city state. The Holy See also known as Vatican City’s equal age of consent is being raised from 12 to 18 following the announcement of an overhaul of the Catholic Church’s criminal code by Pope Francis. [Zen Buddhist] Japan finally bans child porn

Hey, kids, want to see some anime?
Possession of child pornography has finally been made illegal in Japan, but paedophilic images in manga comic books remain legal.

Japan on Wednesday finally fell into line with other major developed countries and made the possession of child pornography illegal. But the sometimes graphic images of pedophilia in manga comic books remain legal.

The upper house of parliament voted overwhelmingly for a bill revising laws under which only the production and distribution of child pornography had been banned.

The legislation cleared the lower house earlier this month.

Campaigners had long urged Japan to toughen its stance on child pornography, complaining it was a major source of the material for global markets.

The new legislation bans possession of photographs and videos depicting real children aged below 18, but it does not include drawings or digitally-created imagery. More

Shocking US military secrets revealed (video)

Douglas Dietrich (douglasdietrich.com); Pat Macpherson, Pfc. Sandoval, Wisdom Quarterly; John B. Wells (coasttocoastam.com); Sean Stone (Buzzsaw)
Death (Greek, Thanatos) rules American military leadership and its imperial missions (US).

Douglas Dietrich, military historian, appeared on Coast to Coast on Nov. 13, 2011

    Who is historian Douglas Dietrich?
Douglas Dietrich was a D.O.D. (Department of Defense/War) Research Librarian for almost a decade, responsible for incinerating highly classified materials on critical historical topics such as Pearl Harbor, Roswell, Vietnam, and various ethnic holocausts.

He was also paid to destroy documents exposing the reality of vampires, zombies, Soviet psychic warfare operatives, and other "occult" phenomena.

    Summoning demons and devils
Volumes of notes on Nicolai Tesla, H.P. Lovecraft, Scientology's L. Ron Hubbard, the seat of Catholicism, the Vatican, and the United Nations were destroyed, along with reams of reports detailing everything from military/intelligence-sponsored drug-smuggling operations to experimental CIA mind-control programs.

Records plundered from both Allied and enemy states revealed the hidden objectives of modern mass-movements such as Nat-Zism, Zionism, Izamicism (Wähhä'bīst/Islamist Fundamentalism[s]), Vouhodouxnism ("Voodooism"), and other ideologies.

Let's bring it! - Bring what? - Death! (DT)
Dietrich's post was El Presidio Real de San Francisco's Western Defense Command Center, a large military base with many military families which was seething with Satanism, child sexual abuse (more than a 1,000 cases resolved by reassigning families to other bases around the world), and controversial human medical experimentation.

An assassination plot on presidential candidate William Clinton was even attempted. Since the base's closure, Dietrich's background in military reference and his experiences in mercenary/security enforcement exposed him to startling insights into geopolitics, our current demographic apocalypse, and the medical-industrial complex thanatizing our future.

My leadership is doing what!? (army.mil)
"Weapons of Mass Deception" were unleashed generations ago by increasingly self-deluded American elites. They have since warped the U.S. electorate's perception of reality. According to Dietrich, NOW is the time for TOTAL disclosure.

    Pentagon, Pentagram, and Satanism
(22:29) Sean Stone interviews Douglas Dietrich about devil worship in military

(Sept. 9, 2013) The Pentagon and high-level Satanic magic are discussed in addition to the unusual history surrounding 9/11, Aleister Crowley, the anti-gods, and more are discussed in the final part of Douglas Dietrich's Buzzsaw interview with Sean Stone, son of Director Oliver Stone. How is the military able to manipulate 50% of the government's discretionary budget and keep total power as they put the world on a collision course with destruction? The answer is surprising.

Douglas Dietrich was a Research Librarian for the Department of Defense at El Presidio Real de San Francisco Military Base in California. There, along with his primary duty of destroying secret documents, he alleges he was assigned to locate and access incredibly rare occult grimoires for the officially recognized Satanic Chaplain of the United States Army, Lt. Col. Michael A. Aquino. Dietrich is a historian, whistleblower, writer, speaker, and activist.
    COMMENTS
(Miranda Thomson) Even though historian Dietrich makes a few errors on time spans in his oratory, his knowledge is encyclopedic! I have few if any doubts as to the veracity of his statements, including the use of atomic weapons by Japan immediately after Nagasaki against the Russians. I doubt the Americans would have had any problem with that. Something stopped the Russians, and it certainly wasn't a fear of the U.S. using an atomic bomb against them. We were still "allies," after all. The Russians would have not have quit if something had not made them quit. And neither the U.S. nor the Japanese could have stopped them with conventional weapons: The bulk of U.S. soldiers were in the European theatre, not the Pacific. The Russians had promised the U.S. and Britain to enter the war within three months of Germany's defeat, which happened on May 8, 1945. That would make it August 8, 1945. I just watched the History Channel's "Japanese Secret Weapons of WW II," and although it said nothing about Japan's nuclear capabilities, it did mention that the Russian military juggernaut could not be stopped by the U.S. or Japan. What stopped them? It seems it was Japanese nukes!

(Zipcrazed) I have wondered why as Americans we are not taught in public school about the atrocities Japan visited on China (in the late 1930s to early 1940s), when they exceeded the atrocities visited by Nazis on Jews, Poles, gays, Gypsies, and other "undesirables."  I bet everyone knows why....

    Another real-life DEMONIC haunting (video)

Pat Macpherson, CC Liu, Wisdom Quarterly; (TheBlaze.com, Feb. 12, 2014)

Another real-life demonic infestation? Ex-politician says his family waged terrifying battle against "evil entity" in home

    Yakkha Krampus, Austria (WB)
A former Pennsylvania politician is set to release details of a story that is sure to stun -- and spook -- his former constituents.

Bob Cranmer, a former Allegheny County commissioner, will release a new book later this year titled The Demon of Brownsville Road. But rather than a work of fiction, Cranmer claims the text will take readers through real-life horrors his family faced at the hands of a demonic force inside their home.

    Sakka, King of the Devas
Cranmer told TheBlaze that his family was terrorized over a two-year period beginning at the end of 2003 and coming to a close in early 2006.

But he said that there was evidence that something wasn’t "right" just weeks after he, his wife, and their four young children moved into the home back in 1988.

“We were in the house for a few weeks [when] my wife and I started to experience things that were paranormal,” he said. More
