• In another part of Russia, Buddhist Siberia (aka "North Asia") -- which long ago began to follow Buddhism from Central Asia (Gandhara and Afghanistan) arriving on the Silk Road and Vajrayana Buddhism that reached it through Mongolia (when Tibet was the head of a Himalayan empire that brought Buddhism to Bangladesh, formerly "East India," on the southern side of the mountain range where the Ganges river ends, according to Ven. Karunananda, Ph.D. -- some place names reflect a more prominent Buddhist past:
• See Sakha Republic/Yakutia (like Saka, Sakka, Shakya), which is situated next to Magadan Oblast.
• The Magha of the Maga people (like Buddhist Magadha of India in standard histories and the more ancient Vedic "Magadha" Kingdom) is the capital city of Alania, a medieval kingdom in the Greater Caucasus.
• It is usual that emigrants name new cities after old ones in reverence of their history. This is all just teasing at loose and tantalizing threads in the tapestry of history, suggestions rather than any definitve proof.

The “sensationalist” article was written by Valery Bebik, a doctor of Political Sciences, a professor, deputy principal of Ukraine University, and the chairman of the board of the All-Ukrainian Association of Political Sciences.

Mr. Bebik published a number of his articles in the official newspaper of the Ukrainian Parliament before. He wrote his previous articles for the paper to “prove” the remarkable role of the Ukrainian civilization, which endowed the world with spiritual enlightenment, outstanding prophets, philosophers, and leaders.

In 2008-2009, the Ukrainian professor shared his amazing observations of ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, and the ethnic origin of Jesus Christ.

Wisdom Quarterly: American Baptist Journal will be going Protestant, fundamentalist Christian and literalist. So when the Holy Bible says, "Thou shalt not," we shall not. 

And when it says, "Thou shalt," for example, "not suffer a 'witch' [a wise person or pharmacist] to live or tolerate sassy children who sass their parents," we shall "stone them to death" as literally commanded.

Why for? For the Lord God hath said so, and who are we to argue with the Controller, All-Knower, and Everywhere-Be'er? Maybe we should change our name to Faith Daily: U.S. Christian Diary.

But, you know, the New Testament is a lot more Jesus-friendly than that creepy Father-friendly first part.

Maybe we won't be fundamentalists, but still very literal. When the new-and-improved Bible, which leaves off that Jewish-heavy winner-writes-the-history first part, says: Our creed(s) is this,

Why Baptist?
Well, truth be told, we needed a B sect. That way we won't have to alter our letterhead that much -- out with the Budh (awakening), in with the Bapt (napping).

Buddhism was too free, too much about individual responsibility. It's concise propaganda statements of faith like this, which every Christian is forced to agree with, that really sells seats and pews.

On second thought, we may be going Catholic instead, not literally "universalist" but we can enlist in the army of the Holy Roman Empire. It's not so bad, what with the new and improved Papa (Father, Pontiff, Pope), His Holiness il Papa Francisco de Argentina, CEO Pope Francis I. At least Catholicism kept one symbolic woman (the Kwan Yin Mother Mary), and that way we can still be members of Pussy Riot singing the Punk Prayer.

In an annual ritual that draws thousands of people, Catholic faithful of Mexican and Central American descent swarmed La Placita ["the Little Plaza"] Church and nearby Olvera Street Plaza [Los Angeles' oldest market square] to celebrate Dia De La Virgen De Guadalupe ["Day of the Virgin who appeared to a man in Guadalupe, Mexico"].  

 

The crowded and colorful festivities are held in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe -- the universal symbol for Mexican Catholics -- who is said to have appeared in a vision before Mexican peasant Juan Diego about 500 years ago.

January 14th is the [Venezuelan] day of the Divina Pastora, the procession of the "Divine Shepherdess," the spiritual patron of Venezuela. The celebration is one of the largest in Latin America, together with the activities in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico.
 
It is a journey taken by more than 2,500,000 people performed in the church of Santa Rosa village, located between the Cathedral of Barquisimeto and Cabudare, a distance of about eight miles.
 

This route, with the virgin carried on the shoulders of her people, begins at noon and ends early in the evening about 367 kilometers from Caracas.
 
The pilgrimage is accompanied by songs, praise, and prayers from parishioners. Some walk barefoot, while others go down on hands and knees.

A Buddhist "Mary"?

It may be said that the real "Mary" in Buddhism would be Maya Devi, the great queen, the Buddha's biological mother.
 
In an interesting pre-Christian source for Mary's "virginity" (pure, unmarried status), the Bodhisattva (Buddha-to-be) looked down from the Tusita world and beheld a suitable woman who could give birth to him. She had refrained from sexual misconduct for seven generations back, so being "pure" in this sense. Abstaining from sexual misconduct is not the same as abstaining from sex. But that, too, entered the mythology by confusing Maya's dream of conception, seeing a pure white double tusk elephant entering her, with the future-Buddha's miraculous (but not technically immaculate) conception, attended by angels (devas).

Kwan Yin, the One Who Looks Down from Heaven

She gave birth as commemorated in Brahmanism like a Sal tree dryad. But she quickly went from being an earthly devi (queen) to a heavenly female devi ("shining one") in the Space World of the Thirty-Three (Tavatimsa). She passed away a week after giving birth. The Buddha was raised by her sister, also his father the king's wife, named Maha Pajapati. She went on to become the first Buddhist nun in history and so achieved a greater distinction than Maya by attaining enlightenment in this very life. 
 
However, Buddhists do not regard either sister as the "Goddess of Mercy and Compassion" who looks down from the heavens and hears the cries of the world. That distinction goes to the pre-Buddhist Avalokitatesvara (Sanskrit अवलोकितेश्वर), a deva (male) who metamorphosed into beloved Kwan Yin, the Chinese version of this ancient Indian deity. She is a manifestation of the divine feminine, a mother goddess, a source of comfort and inspiration to uncounted millions of Mahayana Buddhists, Hindus, and to a lesser extent Theravada Buddhists and Chinese atheists.

Christian scholar claims Christianity invented as part of ancient Roman psy-ops campaign

The Christian faith is the result of the most successful psy-ops program in history, according to a self-professed American Bible scholar.

 

Joseph Atwill will present his controversial theory Oct. 19 in London: the New Testament was written by first-century Roman aristocrats as part of a sophisticated government project to help pacify Jews in occupied territories.

 

Atwill, author of Caesar’s Messiah, claims he’s found ancient confessions by the scriptures’ authors that they invented Jesus Christ and his story as basically a form of propaganda.

“Jewish sects in Palestine at the time, who were waiting for a prophesied warrior Messiah [kshtriya Maitreya], were a constant source of violent insurrection during the first century,” Atwill said.

 

“When the Romans had exhausted conventional means of quashing rebellion, they switched to psychological warfare ["psy ops," psychological operations]. They surmised that the way to stop the spread of zealous Jewish missionary activity was to create a competing belief system. That’s when the ‘peaceful’ Messiah story was invented.
 

Priests molesting kids? Sure, why not?

[In fact, it was borrowed wholesale from ancient Eastern lore, the expectation talked about by the Buddha about the arising of the next world teacher, the Buddha Maitreya, far in the future. And most catholic or "universal" teachings are borrowed piecemeal from Buddhist, Vedic, European Pagan, Egyptian, and Sumerian sources. Since the leadership does not really believe what it teaches, why not molest children, embezzle Church funds, and live like Roman royalty?]

“Instead of inspiring warfare, this Messiah urged turn-the-other-cheek pacifism and encouraged Jews to ‘give onto Caesar’ and pay their taxes to Rome.”

 

He says that Jesus was not based on an actual historical figure, but Atwill argues that the events of his life were overlaid on top of actual events from the First Jewish-Roman War, waged by Emperor Titus Flavius in Palestinian territories.

 

A history of suffering that will not end

“The biography of Jesus is actually constructed, tip to stern, on prior stories, but especially on the biography of a Roman Caesar,” he says.

 

Atwill said he understands that his theory is bound to upset Christians, and he’s hoping skeptics will come to challenge him after his lecture as part of a symposium, “Covert Messiah,” along with Kenneth Humphreys, author of Jesus Never Existed.
 

“Although Christianity can be a comfort to some, it can also be very damaging and repressive, an insidious form of mind control that has led to blind acceptance of serfdom, poverty, and war throughout history,” Atwill says. “To this day, especially in the United States, it is used to create support for war in the Middle East.”
