NPR propaganda uses CIA-linked firm's report on Snowden's whistle blowing

The NSA illegally spies on everyone it can.
Earlier this month, The Intercept published documents provided by NSA-whistleblower Edward Snowden that revealed the deep ties between Israeli and U.S. intelligence agencies.

In a recent article, investigative journalist Glenn Greenwald cites one 2013 document that described a "far-reaching technical and analytic relationship" between the National Security Agency (NSA) and its Israeli counterpart against "mutually agreed upon geographic targets."

The partnership includes a "dedicated communications line" supporting "the exchange of raw material, as well as daily analytic and technical correspondence." More

Furthermore, Greenwald’s latest article for The Intercept is headlined "NPR is laundering CIA talking points to make you scared of NSAb eporting."

Greenwald takes a highly critical look at a story by NPR’s counterterrorism correspondent, Dina Temple-Raston, which aired on Morning Edition earlier this month. Temple-Raston’s propaganda-ridden report focused on claims by the tech firm Recorded Future that it has "tangible evidence" that NSA whistleblower Snowden harmed national security by inadvertently prompting "terrorists" to use better encryption programs to maintain their privacy.

Greenwald says the NPR report erred in failing to mention that the firm is funded by the CIA, even though Temple-Rason was well aware of this. "This was such a pure and indisputable case of journalistic malpractice and deceit," Greenwald charges. "NPR radically misled millions of people with this report." More

Very early Sunday morning [Dec. 15, 2013], China's Moon rover, Yutu or "Jade Rabbit," separated from its lander and began its exploration.

This means that China has officially joined the USA and the former USSR as the only three [imperial] countries to make a soft landing and drop an exploratory vehicle on the Moon [named Chang'e in Chinese] safely. The Chinese state news agency Xinhua reports:
"The 140 kg six-wheeled rover touched the lunar surface at 4:35 a.m., leaving deep trace on the loose lunar soil. The process was recorded by the camera on the lander and the images were sent to the Earth, according to the Beijing Aerospace Control Center.
"After the separation, the rover and lander will take photos of each other and start their own scientific explorations.
"Engineers made final checks of the environment of the landing site, the situation of the probe and the solar incidence angle late night on Saturday and sent signals of separation to Chang'e-3.
"Yutu, atop the probe, extended its solar panel and started to drive slowly to the transfer mechanism at 3:10. The transfer mechanism unlocked at 4:06 with one side reaching the moon's surface, allowing the rover to descend to the surface following a ladder mechanism."
As NPR reported yesterday, this is a big deal for China, as it shows off its technical prowess and is a point of national pride. But it's also a big deal for humankind. More

Spooky: corporations spy on non-profits

Wisdom Quarterly; Gary Ruskin (CorporatePolicy.org, Nov. 20, 2013), "Spooky Business: A New Report on Corporate Espionage Against Non-profits"
Giant corporations are employing highly unethical or illegal tools of espionage against nonprofit organizations with near impunity, according to a new report by Essential Information.

The report, titled Spooky Business, documents how corporations hire shady investigative firms staffed with former employees of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), National Security Agency (NSA), US military, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Secret Service, and local police departments to target nonprofit organizations.

“Corporate espionage against nonprofit organizations is an egregious abuse of corporate power that is subverting democracy,” said Gary Ruskin, author of Spooky Business. “Who will rein in the forces of corporate lawlessness as they bear down upon nonprofit defenders of justice?”

Many of the world’s largest corporations and their trade associations -- including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Walmart, Monsanto, Bank of America, Dow Chemical, Kraft, Coca-Cola, Chevron, Burger King, McDonald’s, Shell, BP, BAE, Sasol, Brown & Williamson, and E.ON -- have been linked to espionage or planned espionage against nonprofit organizations, activists, and whistleblowers.

Many different types of nonprofit organizations have been targeted with corporate espionage, including environmental, anti-war, public interest, consumer, food safety, pesticide reform, nursing home reform, gun control, social justice, animal rights, and arms control groups. More

Poor SLEEP makes us fat, demented (audio)

American men are fatter than other men
Is that 6:00 am workout getting in the way of good sleep? Don't think those fat cells won't notice.

A new study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine finds that inadequate shut-eye has a harmful response on our fat cells, reducing their ability to respond to insulin by about 30 percent.

Over the long-term, this decreased response could set the stage for Type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease, and weight gain.

BREAKING NEWS: Reason we sleep discovered!
The brain on final rinse cycle by end of a good night's sleep (Katherine Streeter/NPR.org)
(All Things Considered) While the brain sleeps, it clears out harmful toxins, a process that may reduce the risk of Alzheimer's, researchers now say. During sleep, the flow of cerebrospinal fluid to and from the brain increases dramatically, washing away harmful waste proteins that build up between brain cells during waking hours, a study of mice found. "It's like a dishwasher," says Dr. Maiken Nedergaard, a professor of neurosurgery at the University of Rochester and an author of the study in Science. The results appear to offer the best explanation yet of why animals and people need sleep. More (LISTEN)

The study adds to a growing body of evidence that there's "an intimate relationship between the amount of sleep we get and our ability to maintain a good, healthy body weight," says sleep expert Helene Emsellem, director of the Center for Sleep and Wake Disorders in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

But Americans don't seem to be getting the message that we need seven to nine hours per night. More than 1 in 5 of us, according to a from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is getting six or fewer hours of sleep per night, on average. LISTEN
